👤I saw previous reviews that compelled me to write this review. I think I know why it is difficult to suck water out of the straw in several states. If you look at my picture, you will see that there is a small piece of wrapping the tip in. You wouldn't notice it if you didn't look at it. When I tried to drink, I got a small amount of water. I realized that it was wrapped after further inspection. It will take some effort to remove it, but it is not a problem. When it is on, half off, and fully removed, it looks different in my pictures. Hope this helps. I just got the bottle and there is no leaking problem.

👤I'm testing water purification methods for a backpacking trip I'm leading next year around the TRT. The bottle is my first experiment and I received it yesterday. I followed all the instructions when I opened the LifeStraw Go bottle. I admit to being nervous as this filter is not good enough to protect me from Viruses like the bigger LifeStraw filters and some other brands of water bottles. I will not give the bottle more than 4 stars if I don't have that capability. I stopped by Lake Topaz on the California/Nevada border and drank some water for a couple of hours. I feel no ill effects as of yet, I wrote this now 9 hours later. So far, so good! I was skeptical about the bottle's strength after reading many other reviews. I am surprised at how easy it is to drink from the straw. The flow rate might be slower than my bottle, but it's not a big deal. I don't understand how this is a complaint unless some people are having problems with their filters. The bottle seems sturdy enough so far and I did not damage it by smashing it against anything. I plan to use it daily to drink from the mountain streams out here in the Sierra Nevada mountains and update this review as I go. I dropped a few stars on this product because the flow rate decreased to zero after a few weeks of sitting. I think it would have continued to work if I used it daily. I don't live in a third world country so I only need it occasionally. If I have to buy a new filter for every time I want to go hiking or camping, it isn't worth the cost compared to other options on the market.

👤I love life straws and this water bottle for hiking because I like to be able to fill my water bottle in a stream or a lake. Some of you won't like that it's a little harder to suck through the straw than a normal water bottle; this is because you are sucking through a filter. It's going to be more difficult. If you are elderly or a child, this is probably not the bottle for you. If you tip the water bottle towards you as you drink, it will spill the water from the top. There is a vent hole in the top. There is no need to tip the water bottle back if you suck through the straw because the water is pulled from the bottom of the filter.

👤These bottles looked like cats. I thought I had found a way to remove the hand pump filter. I ordered two for a week trip. You have to test it before you go. I have been outdoors a long time. I know how to use gear. The bottles failed the test. I bought one for my son, who is 6'1" 200 lbs of muscle. He had a hard time pushing through the clean water as a test. It is not possible to be trusted in the field. The second time I tried it in the kitchen, it was clean. The water shot up the sides three times. I tried to get in touch with the company by email, but every solution they offered didn't fix the problem. I give them credit for having good support, but if the thing doesn't work, it doesn't work. Returned them both. My reliable Katadyn Hiker is back.

👤The first Oasis Green leaked out when you pressed to filter the water, so I purchased 4 of these in 4 different colors for my family. I tested the other 3 more than once to make sure I was using the product correctly. The water came out of the sides when I tried the Oasis Green, and the gasket on the inner or outer container was not correct. The second Oasis Green version failed out of the box after I sent it back for a replacement. I returned it as well. You have to be patient and apply a constant force on the top to get it to filter. If you press harder it won't filter any quicker and you run the risk of damaging the bottle or filter or gasket. I'm not sure my younger kids or wife can press hard enough, so I'll probably be the one doing this the most. I'm not sold on the longevity of the product, especially if it's left inside a hot vehicle. The product is heavy and I'll just keep using my katadyn be free filter system for now and let the rest of the family battle it.

👤I own two Grayls and have found them to be great purifiers despite being slow to process waters with particulates. The life of the purifier is affected by this. It would be better to run the water through something other than the Grayl. If one is not going to be near a water source for a while, it's important to fill up other containers with enough water. I was thinking about changing to a device that has a pump handle as having just one 24 ounce container for drinking and meal prep isn't enough, and my hands took a beating processing multiple cycles through my Grayl. There are pros and cons to both the Grayl and Sawyer filters.

👤I took this with me on my trip to the Boundary Waters. When the group's gravity-fed filter bag failed, we ended up using this often to process water for all of us. We were able to process water in canoes, hiking, and on the beach. The filter was getting harder to press by the end of the week, but I think we processed a bit of lake water during that time. It's definitely a good idea to have this on your trips to the back country.

Brand: Berkey

👤Pros -water tastes better. The water has less chlorine and less copper. The pH was slightly raised. Black filters seem to work well, easy to assemble, friendly and helpful, but slow customer service, andfluoride filters are leaking dust. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Gave up on them. Plugs that ship with the unit impart a heavy rubber taste to water. If you want to install gum plugs, you must contact customer service and soak them in baking soda paste for a day. I have had my Berkey Light for about thirty days now, and I am ready to tell about my experience with it. The taste of the water is the most important part. There's no question. The water tastes good. It's not the best tasting water I've ever had, but it's not the worst. You can find bottled water that tastes just as good or better, but you won't get bad tasting water from the Berkey, after you put it together properly. My experience putting it together and using it. It was easy to assemble. The instructions were easy to understand. The black filters seemed to work well on the first day, as I noticed a noticeable improvement in the taste of my tap water. The fluoride filters were a bit more difficult to work with. I'm pretty sure that I followed the instructions, but the filters left a powder in the water that tasted bitter and awful. I decided that I wouldn't bother with the fluoride filters after a number of attempts at getting them to work. I used my Berkey light with the black filters for a few days, but there was a problem. The taste of the water reminded me of tire rubber. I was worried that the filters or chambers could be harmful to the environment. Berkey's customer service decided that my issue was due to the black rubber plugs that shipped with my unit. There were openings to house four filters. The unit has two filters and two black rubber plugs. They told me that they had switched to gum plugs and that I would get some soon. The taste of the gum plugs was affected by the water's taste. I was considering getting a refund on the whole unit, as I felt that I had gone through too much trouble to get it to work for me. I decided to try one more thing before making a decision. I covered my gum plugs in the paste after making it with water and baking soda. The water tasted great after I installed them. I was going to test the effectiveness of the water filters. I don't have a lot of money to send water samples to a lab, so I decided to buy a home water testing kit from Home Depot. If the testing kit is reliable, I can confirm that the black filters are removing chlorine, reducing the copper content in my water, and raising the pH of my water from 7 to 8. I don't have access to clean water, but I would like to see what the filters can do, particularly when it comes to viruses andbacteria removal. Berkey recommends that you replace the water filters after three days as the filters remove all the chemicals in the water which are bad for the environment. The test came up negative after I took 3-4 day old water. This probably isn't saying much since my tap water also tested negative. Finally, my general impressions. I am happy with my purchase, but I don't like how much work I had to put in to get the water to taste good, and I still can't get the fluoride filters to work. I might try them out again one day, but I'm happy with my Berkey without them. They will continue to sit on a shelf. I have no reason to doubt Berkey's claims about how powerful their black filters are, but I have no way of testing them myself. If possible, keep this review updated on any changes that occur. The review was posted in October of 2019. I will be updating this review in March of 2021. I've used the Berkey for two and a half years and have tested it with the same water testing kit I used in my original review. The filters are still removing chlorine, copper, and other elements from my water. Berkey says that you should clean the chambers every once in a while, but I haven't done that in a year. The chambers have crystal clear water. The Berkey is something I can recommend to my friends and family. I'd like to order the filters and give them another try, and I'll do that later this year. I will update this review again once I do.

Brand: Fs-tfc

👤I'm not sure how I feel about this. The water filter is easy to use. When I first used this filter, I thought the water from the lake had a slight lake/ dirt flavor. I took a picture of the water from a resevoir and the water from a water filter side by side. I'm scared to use the water filter after seeing this. I only use the water filter for 20 gallons. I don't mind the color if the water is safe to drink.

👤I was going to hike around Mt. Whitney for eight days. The water tasted great. The first two days the filter failed, spilling sand and mucking up the internals. I cleaned it and it was back up again. The last 6 days I drank water from a bottle. I would only recommend it to my enemies.

👤I bought this for myself. I was so afraid of getting a waterborne disease while camping that I used the bathroom in the wild frequently, so I did a lot of research on water filters. My entire crew had to rely on this filter to stay hydrated. We didn't boil the water after we got it clean, no one got sick and the water tasted good. I was going to get a straw type filter. I think it was a good choice to buy this filter. It wasn't that hard to pump. I am a 5' 2 inch female. I was able to do about 4 liters. Well made! Small, convenient, light, and no waterborne diseases.

👤It was easy to assemble. I can't tell if the outputs are for pumping into a cannister or sucking out water from your mouth. The pouch is cool, but it will burst if too much air gets into it. The bag exploded on me when the pump pushed air and water into it. There is a way to alleviate this by not closing the bag with the opening for the tube, but really no air should have been going into the bag period. The bag I used to dump into my metal water jug was provided by me. There is a The only other issue I have is that the filter is open and exposed, which makes it hard to cover, but it worked well and saved me when I ran out of water.

👤You never know when an emergency can happen. This can save your life. I bought the filter because it is able to filter even further and fine materials. The best filters force the water through a tighter weave, which is more effort, but it does require you to pump it. I keep one in the house and one in the car. You never know.

👤They delivered an in-line filter for an RV. Twice. The seller reached out to me multiple times after the initial review was posted. They offered to send the unit for free if you update the review. The quality and construction of the product are as expected, and I received the correct product. I can't attest to function or longevity because I haven't used it yet.

Water treatment tablets are ideal to keep with camping gear.

Brand: Potable Aqua

👤The product was made in 2011. I received the same bottle every time. Don't waste time.

👤The item was delivered in a paper envelope, without a factory seal on the bottles. It's super vague.

👤I was surprised to receive two bottles filled with tablets. It was not in the cardboard sealed packaging that was advertised. Please tell me what to do?

👤I was shocked when I looked at the instructions on the bottle that they were not in line with what the seller said. The bottle says you should use 2 tablets per quart of water, but the sellers say 1 tablet per quart. I am short on supplies and this is half the value advertised. I paid full price for half of what I was promised, but not as much as I need. This is not acceptable. I submitted a false product information report a week or two ago, but it has since been corrected. The instructions on the bottle state 2 tablets are needed, even though the image states "1 tablet 888-349-8884 The image seems to have been removed. I'm also concerned about the dates that are past. The bottles come loose in a brown packing bag and there is no identifying information on them. I'm trying to contact the manufacturer to see if this number can be used to find the date of manufacture and the expiration date. The website of Portable Aqua states that the pills never expire. They like magic and are good for it. It's amazing! Every expert review states that the tablets will not last more than 4 years. I have already had false advertising and I find it hard to believe that these pills are different. If I have any success in contacting the company, I will update here again.

👤The package that is shown has 2 of these not in it. The bottles had a white dust on them as if they had been sitting for a long time. They don't show an expiration date because they weren't in the original packaging. Disappointed.

👤They came loose in an envelope, not in the manufacturer's packaging. They are over a year old, there is no seal on the cap, and who knows when they were packaged or if they have been tampered with.

👤I think I should give these 5 stars. I used them to drink tap water in Argentina and didn't get sick, so they did work. The water was turned into a dirty brown color.

👤They were sent to some friends in Puerto Rico to have safe drinking water. I wish they didn't need it, but they do and it's effective because they can drink water.

Brand: Apec Water Systems

👤The APEC Top Tier 5-Stage Reverse Osmosis system is great value and does a great job of delivering clean, good tasting water. A six month review is what this is. The system includes 1 pre-filter, 2 particulate filters, and 2 micro filters. It has a large capacity for cleaning silty water and a high level of purification. The installation materials give you everything you need to install under the sink. It is a moderate level install. If you're replacing a current system and installing a new one, you'll see this figure. Basic tools are what you will need. If you need to drill a hole in your counter to install a small faucet, the exception is. Special hole saws may be required. The unit is very small, and I was able to wedge it in between my garbage disposal and cabinet wall. I compared the taste and quality of the old 3-stage system to the new 5-stage system. The family all agreed that the system delivered superior taste and higher flow rate. The water was clear. My experience with a family of 4 and a reverse osmosis system servicing a counter faucet is that the main large particulate filters last about a year. I suggest buying a complete set of all 5 filters, plus additional large particulate filters when you purchase the unit. You can get in the habit of changing them regularly if you have these spare parts on hand. The included faucet is an upgrade over the older style we were using. It's easy to clean. The flow rate is better than expected. All of the polyhose is connected without tools. The pressure tank can be installed on either side. The included installation materials have water and drain taps that are easy to install. The value is great. The cost of buying three replacement filters for an older 3-stage system is less than the price of the new ones. The level of purification exceeded my expectations. Great tasting water. Maybe it tastes good. There are 3 more Everything needed for installation is included. Competent home-owner installation. The unit is very small. It fits in the smallest spaces. You may need special hole saw tools to install the supplied faucet. Fight for room between the sink bowls and garbage disposals by lying on your back under the sink cabinet. There is need for some flexibility.

👤"You have one on every floor?" Yes. I have three filters that I love. We have "city water", but it's really a community well. The water here is very hard. The last time I had it tested to size out a water softener, I was hovering around 30 grains per gallon, which is three times what the WQA considers "very hard water". There's a lot of it. We're hovering in the vicinity of 600 ppm at the tap. The one time I used a glass that I wasn't sure was clean, and got 571 ppm, the readings were between 590 and 630 in the plastic cups. The water tastes gross. If you don't want to read the whole review, you need this filter, which turns 600 parts per million water into 10 parts per million water. Ten. One, zero. I used to go to the store with a water cooler with bottles you exchange at Kroger or Walmart, but I got tired of lugging 40 gallons of water around. I was almost top-of-the-line when I did the math.

Brand: Logest

👤Good price point. The pump is hard to open. I had to pry the handle up on the units. Glad it didn't break. It would be great if it had a replacement filter or at least information on how to replace it. Outside of that. It works the way it should.

👤On delivery, it was broken and unusable. It appears to be very fragile. Return and try a different brand.

👤The handle won't extend up. There was nothing in the owner's manual.

👤I had to apply a lot of force to pull the handle loose. It was not a problem then. I want to know if other filters will work with it.

👤My family talked about water. When the EPA changes the acceptable level of some chemicals in our water, it will make our water unsafe to drink. The water is not changing. If something happened to our water supply, what would happen? We have some streams and ponds in the area, but they are not safe to drink. If something like that ever happened, I thought this would be a useful thing to provide a bit of drinking water. This is not something we are going to use to purify 10 gallons of water, but in a pinch, this would be a way to get clean water. It is a manual pump, but it is supposed to filter out most of the stuff that can make you sick. It comes with a pump, a little pre-filter, plastic tubing, a cup, and two collapsible water bottles. It is light, so I could see packing it for a canoe camping trip, where access to safe water was not an issue. We could add this in if we were hiking with a group. Several of us would be able to use one unit. Without a lab test it is hard to evaluate effectiveness. Sometimes you have water that is safe to drink, sometimes it doesn't contain enoughbacteria to cause illness, and sometimes you are just lucky. You are more likely to get sick if you drink from natural sources. There is a layer of protection. Maybe the bad things that would have made you sick were taken out by it. If you can drink from a natural source and not get sick, it will work. It is made of plastic and should last a long time. Assume that replacement filters can be purchased when needed, since the filter is replaceable.

👤I believe it's because of the vacuum created when it's pumped that it's hard to open the first time. I pumped 400ml through it in about 30 seconds, and I would say that it's not hard to fill up a water bottle, but you definitely need to keep track of the included wrench used to remove the filter, because it's not easy to do. The pump comes with a mesh bag to keep all of the parts together, and the included hose is of a material that doesn't seem to kink, which is nice.

9. Sawyer Products SP129 Filtration Squeezable

Sawyer Products SP129 Filtration Squeezable

Water treatment tablets are ideal to keep with camping gear. The portable water filter is lightweight and easy to use. 100% of the Micro Squeeze Units are individually tested to performance standards. The flip top sports cap has been built-in. The spray water comes from the included pouch and also fits standard water bottles with 28 Mm threads. Two Reusable 32-Oz, Bpa-Free Collapsible Pouches that Roll up tight for easy packing, Drinking Straw, One Set of Sawyer Inline Hydration Pack Adapters for Filter, and a Mesh Storage Bag are included.

Brand: Sawyer Products

👤I used this for the first time. It is simple and effective. I did not get sick from the water. I think. Some of the water I drank on the PCT was delicious and I didn't need to filter it. Some of the dead animals were rotting in a stagnant cistern. You will be happy when you have your sawyer. I started with the MInI sawyer and it is better than my mini, which broke in the first month. The mini is being sucked on by the flow. If you want to use this a lot, I would suggest buying a new O ring with a mesh filter at a hardware store and using it for your kitchen faucet. You will have to clean your sawyer less often, and double-rainbow/filtration will be added, because this will add another layer of filters before water reaches your sawyer. You are welcome.

👤I didn't want to send it back because of the value issue. I added a smart water bottle top and it works. A simple solution to a messed up experience. I have ordered this product from Amazon 3 times. I have received the product many times. I received a 2 pouch system that was incomplete until I realized it did not have the push/pull valve and cap. It was not as described and one of the most important features was missing when I sent it back. Without this feature, spills can occur and the last thing you want is to find your down sleeping bag wet and smelly because of a spill from the remaining water in the filter. You don't want to bag a wet filter because it will affect you in the long run. Hopefully, this is an error which Amazon catches because they are offering an incomplete system which is misleading, considering the description states the item is included. If you order this system in the one pouch option, you need the cap and not the twist cap on the squeeze bags. This will help others catch this issue.

👤For years, I have been using the Katadyn water bottle for my water needs while I am on the trail and on myMSR pump filter around the camp and this has replaced both of them. The Katadyn bottle was nice, but had only ok flow, so you can't squeeze and eat like crazy with the Sawyer. You can use the included pouch or any bottle with a 2 liter screw top, such as a smart water bottle, and the flow is awesome. It comes out the other side when you squeeze. It was time for Katadyn to be gone and replaced with a new one for filtering at camp. I used to either pump and pump more or use the tablets to get enough water. Sawyer saves the day again. You can make a simple gravity system with the addition of a $2 tornado tube and a couple of collapsible water bottles. Put a couple of holes in the welded section and fill one bottle with dirty water. Put the tornado tube on the "out" side of the filter, put the empty bottle into the other end of the tornado tube, and put the side of the filter away from the arrow on the " dirty" water bottle. Turn it upside down and hang it from a tree. Everything is not the same when you come back. I don't need more pumping for me. I still bring tablets or auqamira drops as an emergency backup, but haven't needed them yet. I attached a couple of pics of the setup I used on a 9 day backpacking trip I just got back from, in case my description is hard to understand. Let me know if you have any questions, or if you want to search for Sawyer Squeeze on the internet.

👤Hello. The package was well received. There is a There is no way to include. 1. The bag has a roll bag on it. The shoulder strap is 3. Stuff a sack. 4. There is a pre-filter mesh.

👤The gift was given to friends in Puerto Rico who are in the midst of a crisis. They were having to boil their water because of the disease. They said this product has saved lives. I love that it is benefiting them and another one has been donated to a third world country. It was very satisfying.

👤The system worked well once I got used to it. I was excited to use it, but I didn't like the taste of the water. It tasted like a solvent. The taste of food grade glue would go away if you ran several bags of water through it. I drank it for three days and I could not tell the difference between the taste of it when I first drank it and it now.

👤This product doesn't work at all. The water in the bag is 120 ppb. The water coming out of the blue valve is 120 PPM. The flow rate was expected, but it didn't filter anything. The dirty water valve won't shut off. Half of the bag is going to end up on the ground because this product will leak dirty water just inches away from your " clean" water and the flow rate of the leak is slower than the filters. The water has a plastic bag in it. I'm sending it back. I've never bought a more USELESS product.

👤The first shipment arrived and worked great for a day, then the second shipment began to leak out of the red valve. I liked the product and the water tasted great, but I can't say that their quality control is very good. Thankfully, I got my money back from Amazon.

👤I was very nervous about using this. I knew I was going to get a waterborne parasites and end up with a disease for the rest of my life. It's been a week since we backpacked. My kids took it down to the stream to fill it up, it was very easy to use. It was light and easy to carry in my backpack. It took about 20 minutes to fill a one liter bottle. I knew that from reading other reviews. I was pretty happy with this purchase.

👤I bought this for backpacking. We tried it out at a lake a week before our trip and learned how to use it. We used it to fill two smart water bottles on our backpacking trip. It is very light and cheap. It was so hot that we used it twice a day and used water from a river and small creek puddles. It was difficult to tell the difference between bottled water and actual water. The quality of the water source is also a factor. It takes a bit to fill bottles, but we averaged about 5 minutes per bottle so it would take about 20 minutes to fill 4 tall bottles and was not an issue for us. I absolutely love this product and recommend it to everyone. It is easy to use and it is worth the price. It was a life saver for us.

LifeStraw will provide a school child in need with safe drinking water for the entire school year if every LifeStraw product is purchased.

Brand: Lifestraw

👤I used this on a backpacking trip with my 3 sons. It was easy to use. Set it up and let it do it. Let this fill it up with clean drinking water, because it's packed in a collapsible 5 gallon container. We drank bottled water after we got muddy river water. We had 5 gallons of clean water all the time.

👤Three 5 gallon water coolers were kept full for five days. Some smaller particles got past the pre filter, but it was great at keeping sand out. When filling the bag, rinse it a couple of times and try to get the pre-filter as clean as possible. * If you want to see the dirty water in the line, hold the bulb depressed and open the red tap. The back flush in the line should be clear by this time.

👤You only receive the Lifestraw system. There is no carrying strap, storage bag, or 12L bag. Very disappointing.

👤Just returned from a trip. In the event of a future failure of my equipment, I will be ordering my backup water purification supplies on Amazon. I wonder what someone could say about a negative review. Almost all one star reviews are due to the bag not coming with it. The bag was zip tied to the package when I bought mine, so maybe it fell off during handling. Get another one. This is the first gravity filter that I have used. I have used pumps from other brands and say this bag is perfect. My 13-year old son is in charge of the water for our trips and he does a great job. We run two bags through this system each day. The water tastes great and has not let us down. I would like to address the negative reviews. I would be mad if you were out in a remote location and the system didn't work. If you are going to rely on something to provide water, you should test it at home. The bag can be adjusted to let it do what it wants. You don't know the difference if you think it runs too slow. If you want to appreciate gravity filters, try hand pump filters. Everyone that has used this with me says the water tastes great. If it tastes plastic, then you probably have cheap plastic bottles that aren't cleaned before use or are junk, and won't lead to good water. I would guess that you are thinking of trying some random online off brand to save money. I wouldn't jeopardize health in a remote location to save a buck. I recommend that you learn how to use it, try it before you go, and have a backup plan in case you fall while climbing a steep ascent or break the filter. It makes sense. Happy camper-ing!

👤It has been used for almost two years in Costa Rica. We fill it from a cistern filled with municipal water, which will give you the tropical trots. It paid for itself in roughly 4 months. It is amazing.
