Brand: Mayday

👤They are bags of water. If you're using these, they're to keep you alive, not comfortable, because they don't hold much water. If you're sweating or in a very dry climate, you should increase the number of pouches you take. The water tastes good. Five-year shelf life is what they say. I think they will last much longer than that as nothing will break down. The rubbery plastic inner liner is strong and can make tearing it open a challenge, but the pouches are pretty durable. The pouches have room to spare, so they shouldn't burst. If you're storing these water pouches yourself, remember that ice expands just under 10%. If you think the water might freeze, leave one pouch worth of volume free. They will most likely break their seams when it's cold. I put the.50 cal can in my freezer while I was experimenting with ways to store the water for survival kits. You can store ten pouches sandwich-style or eleven pouches stacked. If the can will be exposed to freezing temperatures for more than a night, they will almost certainly blow up, but you can fit twelve pouches stacked in their liquid form and still have room for the lid to close. If you live in a high desert, you should be okay if you only experience overnight freezes. The box was the best value on Amazon and I went for it. I wish the crimped edges of the pouches were a bit smaller, they are almost half an inch wide, and it introduces more challenges to storage. I use them for survival kits in a disaster and for my car. If you're looking for a home emergency water supply, you should use large gallon containers.

👤The box arrived in perfect shape and was verified that I got 100 packs. I divided them between the 4 emeregency back packs that I have for each member of my inmediate family. The order was placed in February 2020 and expires in January 2025. Good deal.

👤I am happy with the purchase. The pouches don't have a lot of room to tear it open. I didn't think there was a strange taste when I opened it. There is a 1/2 cup of water inside each pouch. Suggests that there be 4 pouches per person. The box has a lot of pouches. In case of an emergency, I'm happy!

👤I have used other survival water that was white with purple writing on it and it tasted like chemicals.

👤You don't have to keep those bottles of water in the car for an emergency. The product was fresh when it was one month old. There are some in the car for the kids to throw in the trunk. I don't know if I'll ever taste one, but under emergency circumstances who's going to work up if it's not pristine?

👤I was going to buy a replacement water for my bag from the original company. The prices for the water pouches were almost twice as much as shipping. I contacted them about the price difference and they said they would make sure their pouches were up to date. I went with the Amazon pouches because I couldn't justify the price of theirs. The expired date started in November of 2019. I was okay with that if it wasn't close to a year or more for the price. The pouches are very strong.

Brand: Waterdrop

👤I like that the empty containers are small. I want to eliminate as much noise as possible when hunting, so I would prefer a more rubbery type material. Attaching the caribeaner to the backpack is a nice feature.

👤Silicone water bottles are ok. If the cap isn't tight enough, they can leak.

👤It's easy to pack. I was able to wash and dry before I left. I didn't notice any strange taste. The lid stayed on the bottle when you opened it.

👤A handy water bottle! It was a good size for carrying around Universal FL. It is easy to refill. The sip tip with cap was a tad better. To make sure PIA was closed and cap snapped on, there were no leaks. It's great for fit in ride lockers. Thanks a lot.

👤The screw on top was not good and I had to use another one.

👤If it was a little larger it would help a lot. It needs to be more robust to attach to the belt. If you don't need a lot of water and want something easy to carry, this is for you.

👤We are going on a backpacking trip. They worked well and held up.

👤It's the perfect item to use as a backup container for a backpack.

Every LifeStraw product purchased, a school child in need will receive safe drinking water for the entire school year. There are materials that are free of BPA.

Brand: Lifestraw

👤You should get a Sawyer-Mini. I have used both on camping trips. You need steel jaws to suck water. If you use a Sawyer or other filters with pump/squeeze action, you won't have to rip out your filling. You have to lie on the ground, and other filters have a straw if the pouch breaks. You need to watch actual videos of people who use these frequently before voting down this post. Everyone uses a pump or squeeze method of filtration. Lifestraws are a great idea, but it is hard to use.

👤I am sorry to have the first one be so negative but the life straw was a total and utter disappointment. I bought it for my daughter to go to Mexico with strict instructions to not drink anything without the life straw. Had she followed my instructions she would have died of dehydration. We followed the instructions from the video to soak it, but we couldn't get any water to come through it. It was too late to return to Amazon and I did not receive a reply when I contacted Life Straw. Too bad. I was going to have one for each family member to have in an emergency pack. I will not do that after this experience.

👤This thing is serious. I went backpacking on Maine's Bigelow range. I ran out of water when I brought it. Bring a wide mouth bottle and fill it with water. I drank from the most disgusting looking hole on top of a lower peak. I thought it would be safe, but it wasn't. Wrong. It tasted like fresh spring water. Better than a tap. I'm from Maine, and I've tasted plenty of water from the mountain springs. It can be difficult to start. You have to prove it by soaking. Blow into it if it still doesn't work. Everyone should have a bug-out bag in case of a civil war, because the world seems to have gone mad.

👤If you don't clear the water after each use, the water will seize up. I didn't run a gallon through either of the break I had.

👤I dropped it from my mouth to the countertop and it stopped working, which is ridiculous. There was no impact at all. It is dangerous to have a water source out in the woods if it can't take an impact. This bad review is solely about that fact.

👤I've used these in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Works as advertised. The system is safe to use. When we deploy, we use it as a standard procedure to have one in everyone's room. It's called Semper Fi.

👤I drank from a steam. I have become a hippie. I'm in a transformation.

👤We got what we ordered. I've used this product before in Afghanistan, and I'm happy with it.

👤The price was right, so I wanted to get one for a while. The water out of the Lake of Two Mountains tasted good and did not have any ill effects.

Brand: Augason Farms

👤I didn't like the fact that I had to wait a long time for it to come in and it broke inside.

5. Potable Aqua Water Purification Treatment

Potable Aqua Water Purification Treatment

The outdoor water purification system for survival is an ideal tool for multiple purposes as backpacking gear, hiking gear, travel accessories, camping safety & survival equipment and emergency preparedness items. The survival straw is also a good gift for hikers. One bottle of Potable Aqua Water Purification Tablets. Water treatment tablets are used for water purification. Potable Aqua emergency water purification tablets are effective against Giardia lamblia. Travel water purification tablets make questionable water suitable to drink. Water treatment tablets are ideal to keep with camping gear.

Brand: Potable Aqua

👤The whole lot was EXPIRED before the life date. After investing $150 in these tablets, I was shocked to discover that all of them had gone bad. We live in Arizona and have very little humidity. In my photos, you can see that the damage was not caused by water or the outside elements. They seem to have been damaged from the inside out. The shelf life is four years. I bought it 3 years ago. These should not have gone bad. Buying a product like this is like buying insurance. The benefits are provided during an emergency situation. These tables are long before resurrection. I highly recommend looking at other options.

👤I like these tablets. They are easy to use and portable. 2 tablets to a liter of water, or 1 tablet to 500 liters of water. I bought theses because the initial tablets I bought from Dick's were running low. These are great to use during the winter when water will freeze in my system and become a hassle to use. They are great to carry around in small kits, especially on vacations where you can't bring much with you. They will breeze through the airport without any issues. Water purification tablets are made with Iodine, so if you use them in water that is not treated, it will turn the water to a brown color. It's the natural reaction Iodine takes in water. If you did it correctly, your water might taste weird, but it's most likely the taste of iodine. If you want to use it in the field or even for emergency uses, I would recommend getting used to the taste of it before you start using it.

👤Don't buy. The package had only cardboard backing. There is no bottle. I can't return it, so I don't have anyone to call for a refund. I was ripped off!

👤Not even a single star. This was a disappointment and should have been thrown out. It looks like it was opened and closed many times. Even though someone did a tape job, the packaging fell out of the box onto the floor. This should never happen. I need to get this back. It should be new and pristine, but who would trust it now that it has a paper tab on it? Someone had to say this. I will return the product.

👤These are supposed to do what they are supposed to do. I'll quote the box on a few points before I give a review. 1. Only when drinking water is suspected of being substandard can it be used. Not to be used frequently. The website suggests a six-week limit. 2. Unopened bottles should be used for four years. The bottom of the review has a date for your tablets. 3. If you keep an opened bottle for more than a year, we recommend that you discard it. 4. One quart of water is suitable to drink. 5. It was effective against Giarda Lamblia when used as directed. 6. Has not been shown to inactivate cysts. If you use according to the directions, you'll be fine. The bottle has 50 tablets in it and you can use two per quart of water. I use three in murky water. The active ingredient in each tablet is Titratable Iodine. This is the same stuff that I used in the military, but I opened a bottle and got three quarts of water from the Ohio River. There is Murky stuff. The first quart was treated with just the Potable Aqua. The second quart was boiled. The third quart was boiled for ten minutes and given two tablets of Potable Aqua. The water was first treated with a handkerchief to remove debris. I'm sure some of the water was lost in the last two quarts due to the boiling process, since my measurement was three quarts before boiling. The results? I'm still alive despite the fact that none of the water was as good as tap water. The first batches were okay. Potable Aqua had a bad taste, so bad that they included a bottle of pills to make it taste better. There is no need for that other bottle here. I could drink the minimum of a gallon a day, even though the water had a chemical taste. The second batches tasted better but smelled bad. I wouldn't drink any more than necessary. The third batches were the best. This is the best option because it only took ten minutes to boil. Remember that the water was first cleaned through a handkerchief before it was poured. If you boil the water, then use the tablets, you can only use one. I've been using these tablets for over fifteen years because I have extensive training in SERE operations. How do you know when your pills were made? The bottle has numbers on it. For example: The first number is the month and the fourth is April. The last two numbers of the year are the second and third numbers. The pills were made in April of 2003 The last three numbers show that this was the 127th batches made. The code can be five or six numbers long, with the first three numbers always indicating the month and year.

👤We took this with us to another country where we didn't want to carry water jugs. It worked great, no stomach issues except for one time my mate drank the tap water. She only drank the water that had been cleansed. We used it to refill a 6L water bottle we bought on the first day, it was easy to use.

👤This is for a backpacking trip to clean water. We filled the 6l capacity twice a day. The pound water needed a lot of filter backflushing to be clean. The taste is better than city tap water.

👤Other reviews said the same thing.

7. MSR Military Grade Backcountry Emergency Preparedness

MSR Military Grade Backcountry Emergency Preparedness

Brand: Msr

👤We took two people on a canoeing trip down the R Nahanni in the NW Territories as we were assured by various retailers' advice that it would be the best purifier bar none. We were reassured that the Guardian would be able to deal with the silt in the river, despite the fact that they advertised that it would be a problem. Considering the high cost of these devices compared to the alternatives, this was a significant investment for us. The purifiers worked as expected for the first ten days, but the throughput declined from 25s to 40s. On day 10, Guardian sheared it's pin-piston attachment, rendering it unrepairable, as has been reported by other purchasers. We are in a difficult position with significant distance yet to travel because of the failure of the other purifier the next morning. The pin-piston attachment point is very heavy loaded due to resistance. This resistance is counteracted by a long lever provided by theMSR. The plastic pin-piston attachment is not strong enough to endure repeated loading and will fail due to stress and fatigue according to an engineer on our trip. Our engineer believes that the Guardian's rapid clogged up added to the resistance, speeded fatigue and hastened failure. We are very disappointed with the high price and claims made for this purifier. Other trip members were going to purchase one, but they are not now. The underlying problem of a weak attachment point is not fixed by sending a replacement pin for one of the devices. We have yet to hear from the company about the failures.

👤The filter is very large. It's not going to solve every problem, but it is what I wanted it to be. I relate to the idea that tight is the best. I used a bottle to test it. I don't use bottles so I don't really care about that, but if you overtighten the filter assembly it will cause the unit to leak, like bad. The Camelback container is similar to the Niagen bottle. I used it by hand and it began leaking after that. I regretted my purchase and gave away my Sweetwater. After receiving a response from the support team, I realized that there was a cut out that needed to be aligned and that the base was probably causing an over pressurization within, which causes water to go past the o-ring on the filter base. Problem solved. 5 gallons and no leaks. Awesome filter once again. My mistake was my head. You will see where to align it once you notice the cut out. Don't be like me.

👤I reviewed a lot of marketing videos and was convinced that this product was what I wanted. There was only one negative review that stated the product was leaking. When I received the filter, I loved it. The concept is. I loosened the base of the filter after testing it several times. No big deal, right? If you have to replace the filter, you have to remove the base and install it again. The filter base "o-ring" wouldn't seal properly and that would cause a leak. I tried tightening and it seemed to make the problem worse. The attached video has a note attached. I explained the problem and submitted my video to them. They were very helpful. The CSR called me back to assist me further. They mentioned that this o-ring can be difficult if you don't tighten it correctly or if you tighten it too tight. My experience is that once the seal is compromised it won't work. I sealed the o-ring with petroleum jelly to fix the problem. If the product fails in an emergency, what should you do? Is it possible to bring Vaseline? They admitted that this is a weak link with the product and immediately offered to send me extra o-rings and a maintenance kit to see if that helps. They gave me the option of trying it out on our upcoming backpacking trip, if I was still dissatisfied, and they would refund my money. That is wonderful and appreciated! Once the o-ring leakage problem is fixed, I think this will be a superb product. Give them 6 months or so to correct. I really appreciate how they are working with me to correct the problem while allowing me to test it out on my trip. Would I recommend purchasing this product in the future? Yes! They need to correct the o-ring issue.

Brand: Waterdrop

👤I tried it out in the creek behind my house and the water tasted really good, even though it was brown in color. There is a clear crystal.

👤The Waterdrop Filter Straw works well on a hike in the mountains. It's annoying that it can't be used as a gravity filter from source container to another. I had to squeeze the water source bottle in order to get the water to flow through. I had to squeeze the collection bottle to remove as much air as possible to get the water to filter through. I had to squeeze and remove air to get more water to pass through. Adding a vent hole to the collection bottle would eliminate the air pressure issue. If you're using bottles like this, it's a good idea to remove the plastic ring after taking the cap off. Water would leak from the supply side if this little ring was not used. The filter straw worked great if attached to a bottle or directly in the stream. It would be nice to have a piece of tubing to stick into the water source, especially when you're wearing a heavy backpack.

👤I was nervous to use this but I did and was pleasantly surprised. I dunked the bag in the pond and hoped for the best. The water tasted great and I didn't get sick. Thumbs up.

👤I'm only considering keeping it for emergency use since it didn't clean my tap water which tests over 500ppm. It tested higher after going through this filter. The spring water tested at 75ppm was accurate. I wouldn't want to rely on stream water as my only water source for long trips, even if it made it drinkable in an emergency.

👤I tried to use the straw in Costa Rica, but could not get any fluid through it. I had a cocktail and got sick. Total failure. I want to know what the problem was with the straw. If it worked, it would have been perfect. I would like you to know the proper use for the future if I didn't use it correctly.

👤The straw is wonderful. My husband and boys went camping last weekend and used the straw with the stream water and it tasted great. Everyone stayed healthy and didn't get sick from drinking out of the stream.

👤I have not used the filter to drink dirty water. I use it to remove micro-plastics from tap or bottled water. This is more than enough to do the job. I don't use the bag if I just screw it on my water bottles because it's not good enough to avoid leaks and spillage.

👤I like the design of the portable filter. One of the things I like to do is hike. The creek water tasted great. It will be great to use it in the mountains.

👤The water filter can be used as a straw or inline filer with a pump. Thankfully bought and brought along as a backup, it got a family of 3 through a canoe trip when our regular filer let us down. It took time and patience, but it worked out in the end. It works better as a straw, to use on a day trip, to get clear water for one person. If you don't expect to filter a lot of water, it's worth the money. It arrived quickly and well.

Brand: Ultimate Survival Tips Be Prepared-because You Never Know

👤This is one page and it is folded up to be a pocket size. Many important things had to be so compressed that a person with no knowledge or even a little survival knowledge will not have enough basic information in several areas that are covered but not well enough to be useful. It is just one page folded up. The additional info that you can find is helpful, but sometimes in some of the apps the video or info is not as complete or as well produced as it could be, and it may not be available to look at when you need it. Being prepared for an emergency is serious. It is great that you are looking for information to be prepared. If you want to buy the necessary equipment for your home and car, you should buy a full and complete Survival book. Is this page better than nothing? .... Yes... If you buy this, you will think you are prepared, but you will not buy a full and well written survival book.

👤This is one of the dumbest things I have ever bought on Amazon. The idea of a pocket-sized survival book is a great one, but one of the first things it says is that you need to carry things with you and not depend on electronics, and the entire guide is full of QR Codes for you to use your phone. It's even more stupid that they lead you to the internet. The diagrams on how to set traps, gut a fish, and tell what different tracks are all useful to look at, but they could be better described in a book. The details are so small that you can't really understand what is happening, and everything is so simple that you can just remember the information. One thing I read that made me want to write this review was that at the end of the "Worst Case Scenario" section, it says that one of the essentials to check off, following a gas mask, is a Bible. I don't know if that is put in as a joke. I understand that people are religious, but the fact that you had to add this to a manual small enough to fit in your pocket is ridiculous. This was the dumbest thing I have ever read, and I have nothing against religion. Don't waste money. You can buy a survival guide. I only give it a star because it does some of what it tells you, but nothing else you wouldn't find in a basic survival guide.

👤The product is resistant to water and tear and has good information. It was possible to put a hole in it accidentally. The water resistance is pretty good. All this info can be found online for free. I don't think 10 bucks is worth it.

👤I like this guide. I can't believe the amount of information in this manual. It's better than most survival books that are full sized. I give away survival kits as gifts to my family members, and this guide is going into every one of them. I notice something new when I look at it. The authors teach the skills in more depth in the videos that you can find with the QR codes. The value is not ordinary. If I choose, I can use the magnifying lens to start a fire. The guide went into my wallet and replaced the $10 I spent for it.

👤It was difficult to initially clean but a good saver.

👤Four of the containers leaked when I bought them.

👤I bought 4 of them and one is missing the spout. How careless of them to just throw this in my order.

👤It's great to have water for an emergency.

👤The first one was opened and the drain fitting was broken, the second one was filled and it leaked. These can't be trusted because they aren't bothering with the other ones.

👤Some of them are leaking.

👤I haven't used them yet, but they look sturdy and easy to carry.

11. Datrex Emergency Survival Water Pouch

Datrex Emergency Survival Water Pouch

Brand: Datrex

👤I am a prepper nerd and I have been checking the water being sold in these small pouches. Many are just tap water and bags. The total dissolved solids are referred to as theTDS. I have seen a range from 100-300 parts per million. The water is pure. I did a simple test here and the lab tested it and both came out as 4 parts per million. The purity of the water is 10 parts per million. The soft taste and slightly acidic PH of around 5 is what Reverse Osmosis Water has been heavily Filters through for taste. Very happy with the package.

👤I received a case of water with an expired date on it. The bottom of the box was wet, so I knew we had a leak when I put the case with my emergency storage. When I opened the case to look for the leaking packet of water, I found that all but 19 of the 64 packs had expired by the time I received the package. The other 19 were older. They had a date in the future. One of the 2 water paks that were unexpired had a leak. It was as if this company tried to hide the expired water in a different case and then placed enough paks over the top of those to try to pass it off as okay. They would have fooled me if one of the packs had not leaked. This company was dishonest.

👤We bought a box of these to distribute among our bags. We haven't tasted it yet, but we hope we never have. It doesn't sound romantic to drink out of a plastic packet. I'm happy to have it. It looks like it's a great backup for water in your house, car, bug out bags, whatever you can think of. Many of them come in a box and are very affordable. If you need some water in an emergency, you can distribute them among the various areas of your life. The packets are very lightweight and durable. I think it's very sturdy and should be cut with a knife to puncture it. They arrived quickly, packaged well and were a good value. We are looking forward to never using them. My wife and I found this one to be the best emergency water out there, but there are many other brands, and you can find a different one that you like better. Other options include water tablets, water bottles, and so on. Depending on your circumstances, you may want to look at other options. I am very happy with what we received and I look forward to never having to use them.

👤This is a big part of my bags and I want to give it 5 stars. There were two pouches inside the box. There were no visible tears or cuts on the bags, they just leaked out of the seals. The book that Amazon had packed in the same box was damaged when the water leaked out of the box. They were packing a book in the same box as a case of water. The water in the undamaged pouch is fine. The one I opened was packed in the year of 2017: it was fresh and clean.
