Brand: Sawyer Products

👤I used this for the first time. It is simple and effective. I did not get sick from the water. I think. Some of the water I drank on the PCT was delicious and I didn't need to filter it. Some of the dead animals were rotting in a stagnant cistern. You will be happy when you have your sawyer. I started with the MInI sawyer and it is better than my mini, which broke in the first month. The mini is being sucked on by the flow. If you want to use this a lot, I would suggest buying a new O ring with a mesh filter at a hardware store and using it for your kitchen faucet. You will have to clean your sawyer less often, and double-rainbow/filtration will be added, because this will add another layer of filters before water reaches your sawyer. You are welcome.

👤I didn't want to send it back because of the value issue. I added a smart water bottle top and it works. A simple solution to a messed up experience. I have ordered this product from Amazon 3 times. I have received the product many times. I received a 2 pouch system that was incomplete until I realized it did not have the push/pull valve and cap. It was not as described and one of the most important features was missing when I sent it back. Without this feature, spills can occur and the last thing you want is to find your down sleeping bag wet and smelly because of a spill from the remaining water in the filter. You don't want to bag a wet filter because it will affect you in the long run. Hopefully, this is an error which Amazon catches because they are offering an incomplete system which is misleading, considering the description states the item is included. If you order this system in the one pouch option, you need the cap and not the twist cap on the squeeze bags. This will help others catch this issue.

👤For years, I have been using the Katadyn water bottle for my water needs while I am on the trail and on myMSR pump filter around the camp and this has replaced both of them. The Katadyn bottle was nice, but had only ok flow, so you can't squeeze and eat like crazy with the Sawyer. You can use the included pouch or any bottle with a 2 liter screw top, such as a smart water bottle, and the flow is awesome. It comes out the other side when you squeeze. It was time for Katadyn to be gone and replaced with a new one for filtering at camp. I used to either pump and pump more or use the tablets to get enough water. Sawyer saves the day again. You can make a simple gravity system with the addition of a $2 tornado tube and a couple of collapsible water bottles. Put a couple of holes in the welded section and fill one bottle with dirty water. Put the tornado tube on the "out" side of the filter, put the empty bottle into the other end of the tornado tube, and put the side of the filter away from the arrow on the " dirty" water bottle. Turn it upside down and hang it from a tree. Everything is not the same when you come back. I don't need more pumping for me. I still bring tablets or auqamira drops as an emergency backup, but haven't needed them yet. I attached a couple of pics of the setup I used on a 9 day backpacking trip I just got back from, in case my description is hard to understand. Let me know if you have any questions, or if you want to search for Sawyer Squeeze on the internet.

Brand: Membrane Solutions

👤I tested this at home with some stagnant pond water and it didn't take away all the color that people like to see but there was a lot of dirt taken out when I cleaned it. It tasted fine and did not have any ill effects. Will be taking it on a backwater canoe trip to see how it works.

👤The water purification system was life-saving. It was the most important part of the equipment list on the 10 day trip to the BWCA wilderness in NE Minnesota. Simple, fast and perfect! I can't say enough good things about this product. It was a solution to provide all 6 of us with a safe and fresh water supply.

👤The headline says that this filter works very well and it's cheaper than most reasonable alternatives. The flow of water was slower than I was hoping for, but it was fine. Nine of us just got done using this filter. It's a good thing. We had to fill it with water that had bits of algae and a number of tiny bugs in it. : No one got sick because neither came through the other side. It's a good thing. It can be difficult to fill a bag to the maximum level, so be sure to get a bigger size than you think you need. The material has some weight and rigidity, which helps.

👤I replaced a pump filter with this and was very happy with the decision. Everyone else who went camping with me was so impressed that they are buying one of their own. Some had issues with other brands of the same type and plan to buy this one. Great for large groups. If it isn't flowing, back wash it.

👤My husband used this backpacking and it was a problem for a while. He had to continue cleaning it. He was not happy with the brand he used.

👤The price tag is hard to beat, and it's exactly what I was looking for. It worked just as well as my friends system.

👤I'm always on the lookout for a new system for long backpacking trips, it's too good not to try. It takes 1-2 hours to purify 1L of water. The Katadyn 6L is half that time. The BeFree filter provides barely a trickle, but thanks to Katadyn, it was improved. When the BeFree refused to flow on day 2, we still had plenty of water capability, because I had both the 10L BeFree and my 6L old style in GNP with 10 guys. I don't know if I'll return this or not. If I keep it, I may try other filters. People say you can use a Sawyer mini. When I put my mini in the line, I couldn't get a single drop through.

👤I haven't used this yet. I got it for the emergency. I ordered both of them from a better know brand. It feels like a better product than the one that 888-270-6611 The bladder feels stronger yet flexible, the nylon strap is convenient, and the little carry case is worth the extra cost. The filters have a little charcoal in them.

3. Potable Aqua Purification Tablets Neutralizing

Potable Aqua Purification Tablets Neutralizing

We donate a serving for every purchase you make. In disaster zones, hospitals, impoverished communities, and emergency living quarters, Liquid I.V. provides much-needed hydration. They have donated over 19 million units. One bottle of 50 Potable Aqua Water Purification Tablets and one bottle of 50 Potable Aqua PA Plus tables. Water purification tablets make questionable water safe to drink. The water purification tablets leave no taste or color in your emergency water. The portable water treatment tablets can be used for emergency water purification. Water treatment tablets are ideal to keep with camping gear.

Brand: Potable Aqua

👤I received these tablets in January 2020. The lot #s were manufactured in December of last year. Why am I getting tablets that are 13 months old? 13 months old is completely unacceptable, considering these are widely accepted to have a four year shelf life.

👤I did not get sick when I traveled to Nepal and I think this product is very good. The first pill stained my water bladder and caused me to give this product 4 stars. You have to carry a separate container for the tablets and the bladder if you want to avoid staining. I would probably get chlorine tablets if I did this again. The water tasted good using those but it tasted the same with the chlorine tablets. I used them for 15 days and they worked.

👤The wilderness areas of America have lost the experience of dipping your head into a cold mountain stream and taking a long refreshing drink. Increased use of the wilderness has led to an increase in the amount of water that is contaminated with fecal coliform. 90 percent of the world's water is contaminated according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. There are two methods for water purification, Iodine and chlorine. Iodine leaves a taste, but it is more effective. It is suggested that the taste may determine how much one drinks. How do you deal with it? Potable Aqua includes a second bottle with tablets you can add to remove the taste, or you can add a pinch of salt per quart. The other option is chlorine, which is used for people with allergies to iodine, as well as for people with thyroid problems, and for people who are allergic to shellfish. It's important to know that if you open a dark bottle, it may need to be used within a certain time. The temperature, pH level, and clarity of the water are some of the factors that affect the effectiveness of chemical treatment. The higher the concentration of chemical, the more cloudy the water is. If the water is cloudy, add tablets to it. All water areas should be treated with a chemical on the lid and threads of the water bottle. The water should sit for a while. If the water temperature is less than 40F, double the treatment time before drinking is needed. Toxic water that has dissolved chemicals or salt will not be worked on by chlorine and iodine. If that is the case, the best thing to do is not use toxic water. You should have at least two options for water, fire and shelter. The Sawyer Products SP128 Mini Water Filter has the distinction of being able to be used almost continuously, even if you backwash it. Some people say that boiling water is the best way to make it safe, but I like to see bubbles for my own peace of mind.

👤The package was open when I received it, but there was a bottle and part of the package missing.

4. Purifier Replaceable Portable Emergency Survival

There is a carry bag with detailed instruction manual, tubing, hose clip, and advanced filters. Their water purification system works without electricity and will turn water into clean and potable water in a matter of minutes. It can deliver water to meet your water needs.

Brand: Purewell

👤We had more water than we could have packed in for backpacking, because we camped by Lake Michigan. None of us got sick. The cleaning process is easy. If the water is more clear, rubberbanding a coffee filter over the prefilter will make it easier to get gunked up by sand. The tubes are unwieldy and we needed someone to hold them while someone else pumped.

👤I like how easy it is to use when you're in the deep woods. Before using, rinse several times.

👤It is easy to use, wish the hose connections to the unit were tighter, but otherwise it works great and the flavor is clean.

👤It's great for camping or emergency use.

👤I haven't tried it yet. If all works like it should, it should.

👤If you were Superman, you would find this product useful. The flow rate is not advertised because the pump requires a lot of strength. Imagine a bench pressing for five minutes to get some water. I think I was sweating out while using the product. Why the compass? I will equip them with a water filter so they can use it for navigation.

👤It's a great water filter for outdoor adventures.

5. LifeStraw Advanced Water Filter Gravity

LifeStraw Advanced Water Filter Gravity

All standard sized under counter RO systems are compatible with high performance replacement filters. The hollow fiber Membrane has a small size. Removes 99% of the organisms and 99% of the plastic. Carbon fiber capsule reduces lead, other heavy metals, chlorine and organic chemical matter. The US EPA has drinking water standards. Exceeds the standard for reduction of lead and other heavy metals. 2, 000 liters/500 gallons and 100 liters/26.4 gallons are the lifetimes. Every Life Straw product purchased, a school child in need will receive safe drinking water for the entire school year.

Brand: Lifestraw

👤If you want something that filters Viruses and not heavy metals, you should get the Mission. If you want something that protects you from heavy metals. The ball is in your court. I'll return this immediately. I'm not going to buy a mission that doesn't filter heavy metals. Not a single person reviews this product. The social proof must have been purchased from fiver. From people who purify the water at airports, churches, schools and the like. This will work if you are using airport or church water. If you are outside, make sure you have purification tablets. There is a huge difference between purification and filtration. The pictures and content on this listing make one believe that it is suitable for any water source. That could not be further from the truth. If you plan to use this outdoors, you should use purification tables. I wanted to give some insight on how to use this filter. When hanging it make sure it is the right height for the container you're going to use for the water. The water doesn't go down but goes up because the hose is curved. It was a very frustrating experience. You will end up holding the filter up in the air with one arm and your cup beneath it for about 5 minutes. A huge customerirritant. The river water tastes like a fish. I like ceramic filters that help with taste and filters viruses.

👤After about 30 gallons of clear Northern Minnesota lake water, the filter started to get stuck and had to be flushed for every gallon of water. This took place in 3 days. We were in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and only had to boil the water so it was not a big deal. The other product we used worked just fine. I am not sure if that will scare me or not.

👤The backflushing device is weak. On my first outing, it broke. It does a good job of providing clean water and is well made. If I were to do it over, I would buy a Sawyer mini and use the hydration bladder that I already own. The lifestraw flex has all of the functions of this one.

👤This system is useful for camping or hiking. It's very light and doesn't take up a lot of room. I would pack this for a small group of hikers. I got two quarts of water in 10 minutes, which is a good flow rate. The water bag, plastic hose, and the filter are part of the system. The bag fills easily and it all assembles easily. The filter is a standard LifeStraw inline filter that has a strainer and a charcoal filter. The charcoal filter's lifetime is less than that of the strainer, so if that's a concern it would be wise to have some replacements handy. The inline filter can be used with other things, like water bottles, for filters as well. The bag is lined with plastic to make it waterproof. The bag is tough because of the straps at the top. What is it like in use? If you've never used a system like this before, keep in mind that water is very heavy and the filled water bag is also heavy. You will need a strong place to hang it or a high place to rest it. You or someone else will have tired arms if you don't. You need room below the bag for a water container, filter, and tubing if you want to use it. If you don't have a way of securing the tubing or filter, you'll want someone nearby to make sure the water flows where you want it. Make sure the tubing is securely attached to the bag. You risk a contaminated water leak that will travel down the outside of the tube, over the top of the filter, and potentially into your clean water container if you don't do something about it. Not good. I got a flow rate of two quarts in ten minutes. This is more than adequate. That is a flow rate with clean water. If you're using a cloudy water system, the flow rate will be worse because the filter element will need to be flushed. The water in the bag is not pre-filtered, so anything you can do to pre-filter the water before putting it in the bag will help.

Brand: Survivor Filter

👤I will change this review if the world ends and it doesn't work.

👤After reading many great reviews, I ordered two of the Survivor Filter PRO. The results using this product were disappointing. I bought two filters for my son and I to use during our Boy Scout backpacking trip in a remote area where the only water source was an old hand water pumping station that provided non-potable water for livestock. I thought it was a great opportunity to use a filter. Several gallons of non-potable water was pumped into buckets. It was from there that the water wasFILTERED to be used for several bottles and bladders. The water had a strong metallic taste but it was clear in color. The water color in every container had turned a light brown by the next morning, and the metal had turned to rust. There is a side-by-side picture of water with and without this product on the left and the original purchased water on the right. The worst part was not having any water and having to drink water from a container while hiking back to our vehicles. I tried to drink as little as possible, but being exposed to the sun in a semi-desert climate during a Santa Ana wind event sets in quickly. I kept a bottle of this water for a week to let the rust settle. I don't know what scares me more, seeing what it can't filter out or not being able to see what else it can't. The rusty film staining the bladder and the metallic taste of the water we filled it with were not removed by cleaning it out. Both had to be replaced. The product is labeled as "viruses and heavy metal tested 0.01 Micron water filter for camping, hiking and emergency." I guess my experience falls under the caveat in the ad, "Reduce most heavy metals, taste and chemicals." I think the metal in my water was not one of those heavy metals. It can be removed. The filter is light weight, compact, and traveled well in my backpack. The components seem well-made and operating the filter was simple. It took less than a minute to fill a 3 liter bladder. It doesn't matter if it doesn't work. I am returning both water filters for a full refund and I am trying to get reimbursement for the cost of replacing our bladders. I will update this review with the results of my work.

👤This was worth the purchase if this malfunctioned soon. Thank you, anyone complaining just return it for another one. I believe the product will last a long time. Unless you handle it, the pump won't act up. I was able to remove 1 gallon in less than 10 minutes. That would be ridiculous. My knees were killing me, I was balancing on a tree. I have only used it a few times, but it was worth it. I tried it out in a neighborhood fountain in Arizona. The water was bad. Garbage was floating around due to the storm, and the water was green. The second one was in the woods in a pond with animals. It was a body of water. Hey, its Arizona. Creeks and rivers don't last very long. The water tasted great. I didn't need the liquid enhancer. Something you'd need for havasupai water or arrowhead. Thanks for buying this filter, it is still worth it.

Brand: Logest

👤Good price point. The pump is hard to open. I had to pry the handle up on the units. Glad it didn't break. It would be great if it had a replacement filter or at least information on how to replace it. Outside of that. It works the way it should.

👤On delivery, it was broken and unusable. It appears to be very fragile. Return and try a different brand.

👤The handle won't extend up. There was nothing in the owner's manual.

👤I had to apply a lot of force to pull the handle loose. It was not a problem then. I want to know if other filters will work with it.

👤My family talked about water. When the EPA changes the acceptable level of some chemicals in our water, it will make our water unsafe to drink. The water is not changing. If something happened to our water supply, what would happen? We have some streams and ponds in the area, but they are not safe to drink. If something like that ever happened, I thought this would be a useful thing to provide a bit of drinking water. This is not something we are going to use to purify 10 gallons of water, but in a pinch, this would be a way to get clean water. It is a manual pump, but it is supposed to filter out most of the stuff that can make you sick. It comes with a pump, a little pre-filter, plastic tubing, a cup, and two collapsible water bottles. It is light, so I could see packing it for a canoe camping trip, where access to safe water was not an issue. We could add this in if we were hiking with a group. Several of us would be able to use one unit. Without a lab test it is hard to evaluate effectiveness. Sometimes you have water that is safe to drink, sometimes it doesn't contain enoughbacteria to cause illness, and sometimes you are just lucky. You are more likely to get sick if you drink from natural sources. There is a layer of protection. Maybe the bad things that would have made you sick were taken out by it. If you can drink from a natural source and not get sick, it will work. It is made of plastic and should last a long time. Assume that replacement filters can be purchased when needed, since the filter is replaceable.

👤I believe it's because of the vacuum created when it's pumped that it's hard to open the first time. I pumped 400ml through it in about 30 seconds, and I would say that it's not hard to fill up a water bottle, but you definitely need to keep track of the included wrench used to remove the filter, because it's not easy to do. The pump comes with a mesh bag to keep all of the parts together, and the included hose is of a material that doesn't seem to kink, which is nice.

Brand: Easiestsuck

👤I drank apple juice with the straw expecting to taste the water. I didn't like the taste of the juice as the day went on. I'm curious to know how this works. I thought this would make it harder for me to drink from whatever I wanted, because I would only get the water from what I was attempting to drink.

👤The world we are in is dangerous. Lifestraws can save your life.

👤It's perfect to use on unboiled water.

👤Drink from the lake. You don't want to drink a lot of water. This straw can fit any bottle. You will be hydrated in about 3 minutes if you fill the bottle with water.

10. Katadyn Transparent Lightweight Backpacking Preparedness

Katadyn Transparent Lightweight Backpacking Preparedness

The taste of your drinking water can be improved by using activated carbon in the core of the filter. The field cleanable screen extends the life of the cartridge. It's ultra-light 11oz, compact size and compatibility with hydration bladders is a long-time trusted option for backpackers. The transparent design makes it possible to see the work of the filters.

Brand: Katadyn

👤This product was used in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area for a week. It was used to filter clean water above the bottom of the lakes, but by day 5 it became difficult to pump the housing, as seen in the photo. Our group had other options for water treatment. I can't return the filter to Amazon as the return window has passed, I would never recommend it to anyone.

👤After one trip, it became so difficult to pump that I'd almost rather not have water than try to keep pumping. We had to change it from person to person so that people could rest. I will never get a pump like this again because of the waste of money. I contacted Katadyn in hopes of getting a replacement pump. My friend has had the same issues with the same pump.

👤The last Hiker Pro lasted about 100 trail days and pumped about 300 to 400 gallons. The hose was hanging into a creek below a log when the valve that actually lifts water into the filter decided there was too much weight on it. I am dropping a star from the review because this happened without any warning. I replaced the filter element for 75 percent of the cost of the whole filter. I figured I'd get another one since I had enough time to go another 100 days. The weight is acceptable. Pre filters keep most of the water out of the mountain water, so they last a long time for me. Pack well and drain before packing. It's quite fast to get to water in hard to reach places. A gallon water canteen and two 1 liter bottles are all you need for a few minutes. I don't want to rely on any gravity system because I move too fast. If you pack them, use them or they are dead weight. This one is easy, and combined with bottles that don't tip over makes a great filter system for me. That's what matters. I don't count ounces on things that are essential. The pump shaft and filter are easy to service. That was unrelated to my last unit's failure. I think it was a flapper valve that let go, something you can't service deep inside the plumbing between pump and filter housing. It can't hurt to see what goes on around the filter, but it's not sure what that adds over the last model. To get a 5 star review, the ridiculous price of the filters needs to come down. How can it be so expensive to make the pleats between the two plastic ends? The price of these filters is too high for what they are. It was clearly aimed at the recreation market. I would like to find a filter that works like this unit but doesn't come with the recreational equipment markup.

👤Since the first time I used it, my filter leaks carbon material. It doesn't get better after a while. It's a broken product to me.

11. Filtration Backpacks Emergencies Traveling Hydration

👤I have tried many different brands of this type of device. This one is my favorite so far. I bought the 4 pack and primed it. It was easy to drink from a straw, as easy to prime as it was. It hooks onto a hydration tube. It's possible to attach it to your bladder. Attaching to a water bottle is easy. I would buy these again. Well done. I can't find it in the wild because it's 8 inches long. But... I'm going to use it.

👤It is a good product. I can't find any contact information on Amazon or the internet for my question. We tried it out. It is recommended to take care of it before storing. How long does it take to dry? I can't blow air through it and if I suck in I get bubbles. What are I doing wrong? Please help. I don't have the ends closed. They are open. Thank you. They only think you want to return it, so there was no choice but to ask.

👤I haven't had an emergency need to use it, but it came complete and in good shape.

👤Great product. I like the tube that is added. Sometimes putting your face next to water is dangerous. You have to do that with tube. I will buy more.

👤The box says more than 260 gallons. I would say missing a few gallons. I should get my money back.
