👤This is a thing that I love. While we have city water, it never hurts to purify extra for drinking as we have had a number of water main breaks, and we had a lot of sediments. We had 10 days or so of discolored water and we were drinking water that was expensive, once they fixed it. The setup was easy because this filter works perfectly. The 2 gallon filter is very durable and isn't bad at all. We put the tap water in after we washed everything. We can hear the water coming in after a short time. The spout is made of solid metal and has been working well.

👤I own a Big Berkey. I needed to buy a second one. I thought I would check out Amazon's competitors. Amazon does. This one is a decent competitor. It's even better and cheaper. It filters the water quicker. The filters that come with the water are connected to the water's filters. I am glad I bought it. I wish I had known about this brand.

👤Not 13! I bought this because it would fit under my kitchen cabinets. They are above the countertops. This is too tall. I had to put it on a small additional table in an apartment with limited space, which is really unfortunate. I will try to take pictures when I'm home. I had to make a video to get information on assembly. There are no instructions. There is a poorly written little insert with inaccurate drawings of the parts, but no information about the set up or maintenance of the unit. It's attractive, it reduces the chlorine smell, but there's not much owner-friendly instructions, warranty info, care info, etc. C'mon people, get the dimensions right.

👤I owned a Berky for eight years and it bent. I bought this one eight years ago, but it was even cheaper. The whole thing costs 220, but the two white filters cost 60 bucks. There is a The water comes out clean and sweet. There were no chloride or fluoride.

👤The Berkey brand is well known, but this product is half the price. It was easy to set up and so far so good. I advise you to run water through at least six times before you get a smooth and tasty taste.

👤The product works as described. Colin at customer service was very helpful when I had an issue. I think it's a good product. Thanks to OUBI and Colin.

👤Quality of product isn't the best. It's nice.

👤The directions were terrible and I had a small scratch on it. It is hidden by the rubber that goes on the bottom, but still it would have been nice if it had been free of dents.

👤If you show off what you have, it will only matter if you have a good item to have.

👤The price continues to go up. The kit contains $75 worth of filters and buckets. Don't be taken.

Brand: Berkey

👤I bought a water filter after hearing about it. I am so sorry I wasted my money. The instructions were written by a non English speaker and they were not helpful in assembling the filter. I found the instructions on the video sharing site, and figured it out. Then, two days later, it wouldn't work. It sat in the upper chamber. I cleaned the filters according to the website. It worked for two days, but is not working again. I don't understand why the filters need to be cleaned every two days. I have to pour out all the water that is sitting in there to take it apart to clean it every other day. I regret buying this item. I am going to throw this horrible thing in the trash.

👤Arrive today, red dye test, completed 3 cycles of water before test, completed unit rinse out before test, what is the purpose of this filter? The city tap has a higher ppm than the after one. Why did the ppm go up after the test? Did I receive faulty filters? Is the system able to filter red food dye? Is the water safe to drink or quality?

👤After 6 months, I did a red food color test with Mccormick red food coloring and it's not filtering out the food color at all. I tried calling the help line from the distributor, but it seems the number has been disconnected so I can't call in for help.

👤The red food coloring test was not removed from the Travel Berkey filters. The Travel Berkey failed the test as well. Send them back to Amazon.

👤This arrived on time and well packed. The size is perfect for daily use on the counter. Three stars for that, two off for terrible instructions with faded pictures, cluttered instructions and colored items that don't exist. They tried to deal with this by putting a slip in front of you, but it's not a good idea. The instructions for priming filters were so bad that it was a learning experience. I have not been able to get rid of one gallon of water. I have reassembled it many times. The rubber gasket doesn't fit the curve of the tank. I will leave it in the sink andmorrow I will make better seals. This system was overpriced and really disappointed me. Will not buy again. The leaking seems to have stopped if I switch the gasket back to the original one. Will see. The rubber bottom liner was removed as it was just retained water spills and based on many reviews that said the tank rusted under it. I put the unit on a trivet to dry it out. The filters were reprimed as one was not draining at all, and I used a video tip to push the water through the bottle. They never said that you needed a flat water tap to do the primer. We will see if the fixes work. It has been a problem in the bottom. It has been a week and it is working well now. It works perfectly on my kitchen sink counter. I can put a large glass under the tap. Since I fixed it, there have been no leaks in the sink. I fill it with my spray hose. It is very convenient. You have to use the system a lot in order to keep the filters wet. The tank of water won't last long because the filter upstairs will be high and dry. We use the water for cooking and for my husband's tea when I would prefer to save the filters for drinking water. You need the better tap that has fill level showing, as it's just a guess when to fill up now, added a star to my review.

4. Detachable 0 1 Micron Portable Equipment Emergency

Detachable 0 1 Micron Portable Equipment Emergency

All manufacturing and other defects are covered by their lifetime warranty. The only other straw on the market that can be disassembled is the WS02 water filter straw. Brand: Membrane Solutions

👤At the same time of life, I bought this item and saw which was better. Below are my pros and cons compared to life straw. 0.2 PM filter has a higher PROS than 0.1 PM filter. Life Straw does not remove heavy metals. 2. To dry and inspect the filter. Life straw cannot be torn apart. 3. Adapt normal water or soft drink bottle. There is no threading to do this. There are red screws on the straw that allow for additional water accessories to be sold separately. There are 1. The price was more than the straw. 2. There is no cap on the intake. The solution was to place a thin plastic between the male and female threads. 3. 1,500 liters is the typical life. The Life Straw filters are 0.2 pm, while the WS02 filters are 0.1 pm. 4. I would say 1/3 compared to the other way around. I think it's due to better filtering, but it's more noticeable when hanging around your neck. Both came with a lanyard to carry around and won't drop to the creek. Both have the same length and diameter. I will purchase this item again. I hope this helps you.

👤I was very impressed with these. These were on my short list because I am a beginner prepper. Many people in our area had broken water pipes. We had these on hand. They are small and light enough to fit in a purse or backpack. They make a nice addition to our camping pack and emergency car kit. I was very pleased with my purchase.

👤I like how it has a way to put water in a bottle. I don't like the idea of people bending down in streams to use a filter. I can't see myself going hiking and having to drink. Or use a container. It's not easy to drink from a container. My home country is Wales when we are hiking there. There are sheep in the wild and I don't feel like trying to get a drink from a river bent over with my backside as a target for a sheep to headbutt me into the river. I can scoop up water if I'm out with my head in the river drinking while a bear decides if I'm next meal. In a bottle keeping an eye on me. Turn it upside down and let it flow into a cup. Just sip away. I have one regret. I didn't buy more because I thought one was good to try, but now the price is out of my range. I regret that I should have gotten the 4 pack instead of the single. The attachment to the bottle is worth it and the product is well built.

👤If you put this onto a 6L bag, watch how fast it works. An empty Dassani water bottle is better than an empty 2L bottle. It's that easy to cut the bottoms off the bottles and fill it up. You can fill up your camper tank in no time. You will have to clean it from time to time because it comes apart quickly. I average a reverse blow up every 3 liters. It worked well past 400L before I cleaned it. It does get dirty, but it's a filter.

Brand: Waterdrop

👤My father was diagnosed with viral encephalitis from the water after I went back packing him.

👤I was hiking and when I looked at the two dry creeks, I panicked. I ran down a small creek. The large bag was easy to carry. When I needed a refill, I carried the filled bag with me and used the smaller handheld bag to hold it. The dark brown water tasted fresh. The filter is easy to clean. I switched to the gravity bag system because I would highly recommend this product. This was a life saver for me when I was backpacking in Arizona.

👤The one full use we got out of the backwash bag before we realized what was wrong was shocking, because my failure to bring the backwash bag cut a backpacking trip short. We only had to get some really nasty green water from a nearby pond, and this bad boy turned it into clear water in no time.

👤"You have to send me the link for that" is what my friend has said before, I have been backpacking many times before. It was one of the best purchases of the trip since it saved a lot of time gathering and filters water. Attach the line to the filter and fill the water container. It's easy. I would buy this again.

👤I went back to pack at a lake in Colorado. I have experience with Sawyer and it worked well. Just blow the straw and it will be easy to back flush.

👤The plastic fixture is hard to use. The set up was made easier by the use of an "on off valve" and quickDisconnects. It does the job it was designed to do. Information has been updated. The product works. I don't have any issues with that. My 77 year old fingers were not strong enough to use the tube clip. I did a quick modification. The majority of you will use the product as designed.

👤backpacking did not bring back any symptoms. We found some gross water, but it must have worked well to remove it. Would recommend!

👤It's a bit difficult to set up but once that's done, the water is clean. It looks like it will last a good while with careful use, but I haven't used it yet.

👤The filter was used for 10 days. I was impressed. The water was clear and tasted great. When filling the resevoir, there is fast flow. I had to backwash before the flow was reduced. It says it filters outbacteria and not heavy metal or chemicals. I would make sure my water is not polluted. It's perfect for me because I mostly travel in N Ontario.

👤The water filter works just as well as Sawyer and Lifestraw. The water tote it comes with can hold 3.5 liters of water, and it's very easy to use. If you don't follow the directions, it won't work. Before connecting the filter, prime the tube by letting water flow out. If air is trapped, it could stop the filter from working. I'm already planning on getting another!

Brand: Berkey

👤The company that makes the Berkey filter is a scam. They are popular and have been around for a long time, but they are not certified by the National Sanitation Foundation because they don't add anything to the water. They aren't sold in California because they don't want to comply with the state's "no lead law". Berkey claims that the requirement is too expensive and is a major red flag for a well known manufacturer that sells well. Berkey only sells through dealers, who have no idea how the product works, and only repeat mumbo-jumbo designed to confuse the average Joe about how the product works. They were caught faking lab test results from LSU, and their fraudulent claims are not accepted by the professor cited in the report. The food coloring test is completely unscientific and they also tout it to ensure the filter works. People have tested the Total Dissolved Solids from numerous tests and found that tap water with a Berkey ends up with more Total Dissolved Solids. You wonder what the filters are doing to the water. Berkey says their filters are made of "proprietary formula" and "mixed media." My guess is that their filters have bad stuff in them and they can't comply with the California law because of this. All around very shady. I don't recommend using their filters.

👤The filter is good. The steel containers are sturdy and the filter does a better job of cleaning the water than any other system I have used. I had a lot of problems with the rubber smell. The system has rubber washers and a rubber stopper. The best thing to do is to throw them away and get silicone washers, which are impossible to find in hardware stores. I just got 4 carbon filters instead of 2, which is more expensive but worth it because it fills the tank much faster. The Berkey spigot is well worth it and comes with Silicone washers. I don't know why they include the smelly rubber stoppers with the system. There are several videos on the internet that show how to clean the system and the filters. It was perfect after the first month of trial and error.

👤This did not meet expectations. It was purchased for a family cabin along the Canadian border in northern Minnesota for use during the summer. The water to purify came from a lake that was crystal clear. The unit had two "black Berkey" filters. Primed according to instructions. It worked fine for a day, then took a while to get going. The company suggested that I purchase/use their "primer" as well as trimming this nearly new filter with a potato peeler. The primer was aided by a good UTube video on how to secure the parts. I primed the woods with the new primer after returning a few weeks later. I re-primed with no benefit after it slowed to less than a drip on the 3rd day. The next thing is to disassemble and wash the black filters, then re-prime and enjoy for 2 or 3 days before repeating the process. Explanation: This could work for you if you like fiddling with things. If you want something for your family to use for a while, you'll find it frustrating. I have over $300 in this thing and am more likely to use a field purifiers I take canoe camping.

Brand: Waterdrop

👤I bought this for a backpacking trip. It's a sturdy bag with a carrying strap and tubing. This was a pleasant surprise. The tubing was perfect for my Sawyer mini. The younger scouts were able to carry a full bladder with the help of the carrying strap. The scouts were able to fill this bladder at the nearby lake and return to camp. They didn't do a good job of keeping the valve at the bottom clean, which is why we used it in shallow water. A great teaching moment is the set up of a gravity filter. You are good to go if you add a Sawyer mini. No leaks. This is now being recommended to all our scout families.

👤The material is sturdy and flexible. I use Sawyer filters, but it does not come with a bit valve. It's like a strap to hang off a tree. Good value at a price point.

👤The bag is large and heavy. Heavier than DromLite. I use the large opening at the top to collect water from the lake and then use it to get to the water bladder. Clean water storage for base camp would also function well. It has a qd connection at the bottom which makes it possible to use it as a source of water.

👤I took this on a backpacking trip to the ocean. It is relatively lightweight and packs down small. If debris gets in there, you'll end up with leaks. When I was trying to carry spare water to camp, the water dribbled out the bottom of the container because I couldn't fully seal the quick connect. It wasn't until I got home that I was able to get the debris out, but now it is working well. Just a warning to be careful where you set this down and/or have some small tools on hand to be able to clear it, just in case.

👤Good value for money so far. I tested it at the sink. The roll top didn't seal when it was filled to 1.5gl line. I got it to seal with "1.25gl" and an extra roll or two. The measure marks are not accurate. I filled the bag with 1 gallon and it was over an inch above the line. The pinch valve allows water to flow. The hose is a little stiff, which may be why it's hard to use. The hose is not very strong. The hose is stiffer than the one in the picture. The outlet has a check valve that you can use to remove the quick-disconnect hose. It didn't leak. The strap has hooks on it. The bag that I got this to replace had a small opening. I had to make at least 2 trips to the water source to get it half full. This new bag will allow me to fill it in shallow water once and have enough to fill my drinking bladder and use at camp with only one trip to the source. When I get more experience, I'll update this review. I used this backpacking and it worked well. I need to use my pot to scoop the water out of the bag. The large opening, handle, and large volume are good. I replaced the hose with a softer one to fix the pinch valve leaking. I used the fitting that came with it.

8. Katadyn Membrane Backpacking Emergency Preparedness

Katadyn Membrane Backpacking Emergency Preparedness

The water filter removes harmful organisms like giardia and cryptid from the water. filters up to 1,000 liters of water without using chemicals. The free flow channels have a fast flow rate of up to 2 liters per minute. Simple and easy to clean by shaking the filter. Do not use in cold weather.

Brand: Katadyn

👤It's hard to beat the befree if you only consider the filter. The sawyer squeeze weights more than the filter does. It loses to the squeeze in that area. The sawyer squeeze works on all kinds of bottles and bladders, but the filter only works with the bladder it comes with. The befree comes with a high quality bladder, but if it fails you are out of luck. If all your containers fail you can still use the filter to drink from a water source. The Befree isn't versatile enough for me.

👤June 2019. This was dragged out to use this season. It emerged from the storage box discolored and with mold despite being cleaned, dried and stored in a dry location. There were tons of black specifications in the filter. It was disgusting. I put it in the trash. My rating is now a 1 star. I want to make sure my drinking water is safe. I don't trust campgrounds to tell me the truth about the water at the sites. It worked well for two people that consume a lot of water. It gets 4 stars because I could taste a slight plastic taste for some time, but it dissipated to a great extent. I expect it to go away completely.

👤I intended to use this as my primary water purification device during my Boundary Waters trip. Initially I thought it was ok, but it got harder and harder to squeeze to get out of it. I'm aware that this is a symptom of a blocked filter and I should rinse it out with water or within the bag. I did this many times. The water in the Boundary Waters is so clean that I didn't think I was trying to filter it. It developed a small leak outside of the slowness, so when I tried to squeeze water it would shoot out a small stream from the side of the bag. It worked well enough to get me through the trip, but I may look for a different option on my next trip. I told Katadyn of my experience. I think I'm the first person to tell them that there is something in the Boundary Waters water. They sent me a new bag and filter that impressed me. I'm not sure if I'll rely solely on this in the BWCA, but great customer service. They are behind their product.

👤I think the best way to collect water is to skim it off the top of the water so it doesn't have a lot of liquid. We took a pot and poured top water into the bag because of the trouble filling it. I went on a kayaking trip on the Buffalo river in July. We had to drink a lot of water. We filled at least 2 gallons at a time. The guy I went with just turned 65 years old and he brought two pump water filters that he has used on over 20 trips and we never broke them out. He said he was going to buy two of these filters. After hearing his praise, I will probably buy another filter as a backup and a few spare filters. We hung the filter from a carabiner and shock cord, which we used for our rain fly. I threw it with my food dry bag and didn't try to baby it. It was knocked around and beat up a bit, but held on. It is a negative thing that it would still leak water when left hanging upside down with the water in it from the filter even when closed. If you don't keep the lid closed, some water will leak or splash out when you shake it to clear the filter. This think is top notch, packs down small, and filters water, so it's convenient, and it's durable, so I'll buy it again as a backup.

9. LifeStraw Personal Camping Emergency Preparedness

LifeStraw Personal Camping Emergency Preparedness

Removes microplastics and reduces the amount of water in the environment. Every LifeStraw product purchased, a school child in need will receive safe drinking water for the entire school year. There are materials that are free of BPA.

Brand: Lifestraw

👤You should get a Sawyer-Mini. I have used both on camping trips. You need steel jaws to suck water. If you use a Sawyer or other filters with pump/squeeze action, you won't have to rip out your filling. You have to lie on the ground, and other filters have a straw if the pouch breaks. You need to watch actual videos of people who use these frequently before voting down this post. Everyone uses a pump or squeeze method of filtration. Lifestraws are a great idea, but it is hard to use.

👤I am sorry to have the first one be so negative but the life straw was a total and utter disappointment. I bought it for my daughter to go to Mexico with strict instructions to not drink anything without the life straw. Had she followed my instructions she would have died of dehydration. We followed the instructions from the video to soak it, but we couldn't get any water to come through it. It was too late to return to Amazon and I did not receive a reply when I contacted Life Straw. Too bad. I was going to have one for each family member to have in an emergency pack. I will not do that after this experience.

👤This thing is serious. I went backpacking on Maine's Bigelow range. I ran out of water when I brought it. Bring a wide mouth bottle and fill it with water. I drank from the most disgusting looking hole on top of a lower peak. I thought it would be safe, but it wasn't. Wrong. It tasted like fresh spring water. Better than a tap. I'm from Maine, and I've tasted plenty of water from the mountain springs. It can be difficult to start. You have to prove it by soaking. Blow into it if it still doesn't work. Everyone should have a bug-out bag in case of a civil war, because the world seems to have gone mad.

👤If you don't clear the water after each use, the water will seize up. I didn't run a gallon through either of the break I had.

👤I dropped it from my mouth to the countertop and it stopped working, which is ridiculous. There was no impact at all. It is dangerous to have a water source out in the woods if it can't take an impact. This bad review is solely about that fact.

👤I've used these in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Works as advertised. The system is safe to use. When we deploy, we use it as a standard procedure to have one in everyone's room. It's called Semper Fi.

👤I drank from a steam. I have become a hippie. I'm in a transformation.

👤We got what we ordered. I've used this product before in Afghanistan, and I'm happy with it.

👤The price was right, so I wanted to get one for a while. The water out of the Lake of Two Mountains tasted good and did not have any ill effects.

Brand: Berkey

👤A friend of hers has a Berkey filter and she did a simple test on it. The test is done by putting red food dye in the top of the unit, where the filters live, fill the unit and see if the red dye is removed. I tried the same thing after she told me she failed the test. It failed as well. It was primed correctly, but still does not filter the red dye. Don't waste your money because there is no way to return the product or get assistance.

👤The Berkey is not enough for a $300.00 item. I used the water tester to see how well it filters the water. The water in my tap was showing more than one part per million. The Berkey's water was found to be at least 200 parts per million. If I only paid $20 for the Berkey, I would be satisfied with this result. The results were not satisfactory for the price that I paid. I'm sending it back.

👤The system is expensive but it is well worth it. It is an investment. We have tried many systems. The berkey system is more convenient, but the filters don't last long and you end up spending more on filters in the long run than you would on the britta. The Berkey filters are black. Some people have issues with them after a while. If I run into any issues with this product, I will contact the supplier and change the review. I advise you to order as big as you can. You should buy a sight glass spigot that will tell you how much water is in the tank. Knowing how much water to add and how much to avoid overflow is really helpful. Hope this helped. I will change this review if necessary. We still love it 6 months later. The water still has good flavor. We are happy with it. It's almost a year later and still going strong. There is no change in flavor.

👤I know a lot of people who use the filter. The water tasted weird, almost not drinkable, after we used it ourselves for 3 months, and the fish died. I would really appreciate a response from the seller and an advice on what to do. Thanks!

👤I filled the cooler with gallons and primed the filters 3 times, but the water always looked greasy. I only used the berkey for 5 weeks but I have had to wash the bottom every 3 weeks because the water starts to smell funny. The top of the filters is crumbling after I took them out to prime again. I believe I got a fake berkey from this company. * The company Good Source sent me a set of replacement filters and I finally completed the installation. I did a dye test and one of the filters was malfunctioning and the dye was coming out of its spout. The quality was disappointing. The water should be excellent, clean and free of problems. I'm not sure if Good Source is selling a fake product or Berkey is making a bad product.
