Brand: Survivor Filter

👤I will change this review if the world ends and it doesn't work.

👤After reading many great reviews, I ordered two of the Survivor Filter PRO. The results using this product were disappointing. I bought two filters for my son and I to use during our Boy Scout backpacking trip in a remote area where the only water source was an old hand water pumping station that provided non-potable water for livestock. I thought it was a great opportunity to use a filter. Several gallons of non-potable water was pumped into buckets. It was from there that the water wasFILTERED to be used for several bottles and bladders. The water had a strong metallic taste but it was clear in color. The water color in every container had turned a light brown by the next morning, and the metal had turned to rust. There is a side-by-side picture of water with and without this product on the left and the original purchased water on the right. The worst part was not having any water and having to drink water from a container while hiking back to our vehicles. I tried to drink as little as possible, but being exposed to the sun in a semi-desert climate during a Santa Ana wind event sets in quickly. I kept a bottle of this water for a week to let the rust settle. I don't know what scares me more, seeing what it can't filter out or not being able to see what else it can't. The rusty film staining the bladder and the metallic taste of the water we filled it with were not removed by cleaning it out. Both had to be replaced. The product is labeled as "viruses and heavy metal tested 0.01 Micron water filter for camping, hiking and emergency." I guess my experience falls under the caveat in the ad, "Reduce most heavy metals, taste and chemicals." I think the metal in my water was not one of those heavy metals. It can be removed. The filter is light weight, compact, and traveled well in my backpack. The components seem well-made and operating the filter was simple. It took less than a minute to fill a 3 liter bladder. It doesn't matter if it doesn't work. I am returning both water filters for a full refund and I am trying to get reimbursement for the cost of replacing our bladders. I will update this review with the results of my work.

👤This was worth the purchase if this malfunctioned soon. Thank you, anyone complaining just return it for another one. I believe the product will last a long time. Unless you handle it, the pump won't act up. I was able to remove 1 gallon in less than 10 minutes. That would be ridiculous. My knees were killing me, I was balancing on a tree. I have only used it a few times, but it was worth it. I tried it out in a neighborhood fountain in Arizona. The water was bad. Garbage was floating around due to the storm, and the water was green. The second one was in the woods in a pond with animals. It was a body of water. Hey, its Arizona. Creeks and rivers don't last very long. The water tasted great. I didn't need the liquid enhancer. Something you'd need for havasupai water or arrowhead. Thanks for buying this filter, it is still worth it.

2. Sawyer Products SP160 One Gallon Dual Threaded

Brand: Sawyer Products

👤You don't need a water filter to make tap water drinkable, these things are for backpacking. There are a couple of things that happen when you do that. silt is going to be in your dirty bag at least a bit. You know that a dirty bag has unsafe water in it, and that it is waiting to ruin your night by tainting your clean water. I don't backpack where I have a table to lay this thing on, but I do backpack where I have a backpack. I need to hang it and the only way to do that is with a thong through the carrying handle and around the tree trunk or branch. That works great, and even leaves the output hose "port" a little higher than the filler port, which gives silt a place to settle. If you're using the Sawyer Mini filter, you should always allow dirty water to sit for at least 10 minutes. It would be easy to include a high-flow cone-type filter that stuck up into the dirty bag, held in place by the outlet hose attachment, if they sold a pre-filter for this. I put a bandanna over the hole before putting on the cap. It worked, but not perfect. You have a bag hanging down with a hose. There was dirty water on itself. If you read the instructions and don't get completely out of water, you'll be able to rinse off the components before using them. The pull-to-open drinking valve outputs the filter's output. This is not ideal. The filter is heavy and hard to "aim" into, so it falls on the end of the hose. The water is being thrown around wasted. If you're sharing this system, you don't want to use your mouth to open the valve, but it takes a lot more force to open than a bottle. Once you open it, you have to use a dirty mouth or hand to close it again, or lift it up above the dirty bag to stop the gravity flow, which could allow a few drops to fall into your cup, bottle. These things are easy to fix and I wish Sawyer did it himself. Four cheap items greatly improve the experience. There is a second Sawyerhydration pack adapter set on Amazon. This gives you a blue and grey screw-on accessory. 2. A short hose. Attach the above to the output side of the filter. Carry the blue "bottle coupler" with you. 3. A pair of tube "pinch clamps", the small plastic kinds that you squeeze to close off a water tube. They are usually sold for aquariums for a dollar or two. The hoses are about an inch from the filter. 4. A small plastic hose clip is used to hold the air hoses in the aquarium. The end of the new output hose is where this should be clipped. Here's how it works. When you fill the dirty bag, close the hose clamps. The filter will not lose its prime if air bubbles are put into it. It's long enough to hang out of the way so you don't have to worry about the output side getting dirty or dripped on. You can set up your output side before you open anything. Attach the bottle coupler to the last/unused screw fitting and put it on the end of the hose if you want to filter into a bottle. You can take your time if you set your bottle well. If you're good, open the pinch clamps. If you want to use the hose clip to attach the output hose to the top lip of your pot, it won't flop out and get dirty. Again, you can do this with the flow off and turn it on when you are ready. These things add $10 and 4oz to your setup. They turn the whole experience of water purification from "sort of touch and go" to "no sweat, this is easy."

Brand: Fs-tfc

👤I'm not sure how I feel about this. The water filter is easy to use. When I first used this filter, I thought the water from the lake had a slight lake/ dirt flavor. I took a picture of the water from a resevoir and the water from a water filter side by side. I'm scared to use the water filter after seeing this. I only use the water filter for 20 gallons. I don't mind the color if the water is safe to drink.

👤I was going to hike around Mt. Whitney for eight days. The water tasted great. The first two days the filter failed, spilling sand and mucking up the internals. I cleaned it and it was back up again. The last 6 days I drank water from a bottle. I would only recommend it to my enemies.

👤I bought this for myself. I was so afraid of getting a waterborne disease while camping that I used the bathroom in the wild frequently, so I did a lot of research on water filters. My entire crew had to rely on this filter to stay hydrated. We didn't boil the water after we got it clean, no one got sick and the water tasted good. I was going to get a straw type filter. I think it was a good choice to buy this filter. It wasn't that hard to pump. I am a 5' 2 inch female. I was able to do about 4 liters. Well made! Small, convenient, light, and no waterborne diseases.

👤It was easy to assemble. I can't tell if the outputs are for pumping into a cannister or sucking out water from your mouth. The pouch is cool, but it will burst if too much air gets into it. The bag exploded on me when the pump pushed air and water into it. There is a way to alleviate this by not closing the bag with the opening for the tube, but really no air should have been going into the bag period. The bag I used to dump into my metal water jug was provided by me. There is a The only other issue I have is that the filter is open and exposed, which makes it hard to cover, but it worked well and saved me when I ran out of water.

👤You never know when an emergency can happen. This can save your life. I bought the filter because it is able to filter even further and fine materials. The best filters force the water through a tighter weave, which is more effort, but it does require you to pump it. I keep one in the house and one in the car. You never know.

👤They delivered an in-line filter for an RV. Twice. The seller reached out to me multiple times after the initial review was posted. They offered to send the unit for free if you update the review. The quality and construction of the product are as expected, and I received the correct product. I can't attest to function or longevity because I haven't used it yet.

Brand: Logest

👤I bought the 4 pack and decided to test it. It was hard to back rinse because you couldn't draw water through it. I found a bad one and tested it again. I opened a third time. Better but still not usable. The best I could do in a minute was barely 250ml. I was hoping that I had found an economical filter to pack away for emergency use, but I will have to return these. Look elsewhere for a usable product and save time and money.

👤I think this is from China. It is likely filled with radiation. I don't know. The information on the package was filled with mistakes and broken English. B. It is not clear how long they last or what the base is. The money was wasted. Buy a product that has credibility.

👤The product says it comes with 2 extra filters per tube, but the extra filters weren't there. This is false advertising, so I contacted the seller.

👤I drank the wrong way. I got food that had been stuck between my teeth after I blew into it. The outflow was blocked by that. The water intake was easy to suck up once the filter was cleaned out.

👤The straw works well. The water tasted like tap water.

👤I didn't have any stomach issues when I used this on a trip to the middle east, I drank water through this device and stuck to hot drinks. The water is different from what your body is used to.

👤We are going on a trip. They seem to be as advertised, but will update after any issues.

👤It's safe to use. It's important for you to have common sense in the likelihood that you need to drink fresh moving water that isn't treated. I live in north Florida. You can bear grylls guy. You can drink your own piss it up.

👤This type of water system was used by me for 20 years in a developing country. It is easy to clean and maintain. It will provide a good flow of clean water. There is no need for electricity or mechanical parts that might fail. The system is very effective. I bought it in the US for an emergency.

👤If you show off what you have, it will only matter if you have a good item to have.

👤The price continues to go up. The kit contains $75 worth of filters and buckets. Don't be taken.

Brand: Easiestsuck

👤I drank apple juice with the straw expecting to taste the water. I didn't like the taste of the juice as the day went on. I'm curious to know how this works. I thought this would make it harder for me to drink from whatever I wanted, because I would only get the water from what I was attempting to drink.

👤The world we are in is dangerous. Lifestraws can save your life.

👤It's perfect to use on unboiled water.

👤Drink from the lake. You don't want to drink a lot of water. This straw can fit any bottle. You will be hydrated in about 3 minutes if you fill the bottle with water.

Brand: Fs-tfc

👤Don't buy this filter. It will fail. Both of mine did.

👤I want a bottle thread that works with standard bottle threads so I don't have to go to a water source to get my water. The included accessory allows for that. I thought it didn't fit, but I realized that you just have to push the bottle over the cone shaped part of the adapter firmly and the silicone will squeeze into the bottle and make a good seal. You can drink directly from the bottle or squeeze it into a container. There is a If using a rigid bottle, stop every so often and turn the bottle upright, then remove the filter to allow air into the bottle and let it re-expand. You don't need to use collapsible bottles. The kit has a pre-filter and long tubing. You can drink directly from a water source without having to bend down and submerge the straw.

👤I didn't expect much for $20, but this straw has a great filter system that makes pond water taste good. It is definitely worth the money.

👤We are hiking more often because we can't go on group outings or camping trips with scouts. This is the only one that comes with everything you need for emergency water purification. I would have rated the Rate Features five stars if they had been Giftable, because the items arrive in a professionally decorated box. The contents include a lanyard, small drink pouch, and small hose. We learned how to use the rain water at home to flush out the initial filter and then hiked with it. The camelback hydration pack has this in it if we need more water during a hot hiking day.

👤I have been looking for a personal purifier that works. I've had some that looked like they were making the water taste better, but as soon as you drink the water, it's not really made of water. You can taste the difference with this purifier. I used the water from the outside hose after doing a comparison with a bottle of water that I bought in a case. I poured them in cups and had my family taste the water from the cups. The others thought the water came from the bottled water, but only one person guessed the cup was from the bottled water. This is very easy to use. I plan on taking this with me on my upcoming hiking trip because I have this in my emergency bin. It's worth taking with me because it filters water and most of us couldn't taste a difference.

👤This works as advertised. I used the bag to fill bottles while camping. The plastic bottle sprung a leak after about 6. It was necessary to squeeze the bag to close the leak spot. The reverse osmosis drinking water tap has a great flow rate. Those of us who are too lazy for backflushing maintenance should be disposable.

👤There is a pouch in the contents. No pouch was included.

8. LifeStraw Personal Camping Emergency Preparedness

Every LifeStraw product purchased, a school child in need will receive safe drinking water for the entire school year. There are materials that are free of BPA.

Brand: Lifestraw

👤You should get a Sawyer-Mini. I have used both on camping trips. You need steel jaws to suck water. If you use a Sawyer or other filters with pump/squeeze action, you won't have to rip out your filling. You have to lie on the ground, and other filters have a straw if the pouch breaks. You need to watch actual videos of people who use these frequently before voting down this post. Everyone uses a pump or squeeze method of filtration. Lifestraws are a great idea, but it is hard to use.

👤I am sorry to have the first one be so negative but the life straw was a total and utter disappointment. I bought it for my daughter to go to Mexico with strict instructions to not drink anything without the life straw. Had she followed my instructions she would have died of dehydration. We followed the instructions from the video to soak it, but we couldn't get any water to come through it. It was too late to return to Amazon and I did not receive a reply when I contacted Life Straw. Too bad. I was going to have one for each family member to have in an emergency pack. I will not do that after this experience.

👤This thing is serious. I went backpacking on Maine's Bigelow range. I ran out of water when I brought it. Bring a wide mouth bottle and fill it with water. I drank from the most disgusting looking hole on top of a lower peak. I thought it would be safe, but it wasn't. Wrong. It tasted like fresh spring water. Better than a tap. I'm from Maine, and I've tasted plenty of water from the mountain springs. It can be difficult to start. You have to prove it by soaking. Blow into it if it still doesn't work. Everyone should have a bug-out bag in case of a civil war, because the world seems to have gone mad.

👤If you don't clear the water after each use, the water will seize up. I didn't run a gallon through either of the break I had.

👤I dropped it from my mouth to the countertop and it stopped working, which is ridiculous. There was no impact at all. It is dangerous to have a water source out in the woods if it can't take an impact. This bad review is solely about that fact.

👤I've used these in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Works as advertised. The system is safe to use. When we deploy, we use it as a standard procedure to have one in everyone's room. It's called Semper Fi.

👤I drank from a steam. I have become a hippie. I'm in a transformation.

👤We got what we ordered. I've used this product before in Afghanistan, and I'm happy with it.

👤The price was right, so I wanted to get one for a while. The water out of the Lake of Two Mountains tasted good and did not have any ill effects.

👤I would like to recommend this product. I bought this straw for my wife and me because we were going camping. I was browsing for camping gear on Amazon when I found this product. The package came with a backwash and water pouch. I was able to store some of the water. The life straw is fast in its filtration rate. The water pouch is free of impurities. Some people are asking if they have to lie down. Don't worry! The camping gear straw has a water tube that you can drink from. If you need hiking gear, this is a good choice.

👤I gave it to my boyfriend for Christmas, but he was not expecting it. We don't use them very often, but we have bug out bags that are great to have on you in case of an emergency or long camping trips where fresh water isn't available.

👤I have been tested by outdoorsmen and am safe if you are stuck in a car with no fresh water.

👤I received it and it was coming apart. I returned it because I wanted to give it back.

👤When we go camping, these are kept in the car. Always useful.

👤I will probably get thirsty fighting zombies, Werewolves and Vampires. It will be nice to have a sip of water every now and then.

👤I have this to take hiking with my kids. I own several filters and this one is cheap, lightweight and tastes good. The tubing included for the straw makes a difference. Definitely recommend.

👤It's better to have it and not need it.

👤It's not easy to flush this device multiple times and then use it manually. I used it on a camping trip and didn't know how much blowing I had to do. Crick water will still taste like Crick water, but you won't get the extra stuff in it.

Brand: Survivor Filter

👤I have been waiting for a product like this for 25 years. I would give it 10 stars. The product is quiet and fast. I have never experienced a better portable water filter. Well done! You have a customer. It's really unbelievable. There is an update. The cooler water had a little bit of milk mixed in it, so I used the filter to remove it. I mean less than half a cup in a 30 quart cooler, but the water was clean after the filters were put in. The pump couldn't get any more water out after the intake hose collapsed on me. I'm assuming it's related to the milk. I backflushed the filter with the included needle, and it worked again, but at a reduced flow. After a cup or two of filters, the hose collapsed again. It was flushed again and used on a different source. The milk gummed up the pre filter and it worked again at a reduced flow. It was very strange. This little filter is great. Keep it away from the water.

👤I bought the manual version of the filter for my trip to the wilds of Eastern Colombia. Most of the people in our group bought a lot of bottled water, but I only had a lightweight Survivor filter and a two liter backpack bladder for my water needs. It was an easy walk to the river to fill up my bladder and the water was crystal clear. The water tasted great. The others asked if they could use the water from my filter, and so we all had great tasting water to drink. After returning home to the mountains above Medellin, I started using it again after the tap water started getting cloudy. My girlfriend in South America was amazed when she tried the water from my Survivor Filter and will only drink water that's been through the filter. I bought the Survivor Pro X Electric Filter to keep up with usage. It's the same high quality I was expecting from the Survivor Pro manual filter, but it's much faster. It plugs in with the power and quietly produces the water I'm used to. Highly recommended. This is not a paid review because I bought the systems.

👤Can't believe how amazing this is. My family used this a few days ago for our monthly camping trip and instead of lugging around large jugs of water, all we had to bring was this water filter. We left this by a creek and it was already filled with clean water before we set up camp.

👤They have sent me a new one and a backup, which is great since I experienced a rare failure. The manual Pro arrived in two days and works the same as the battery one. The filters do a great job. The battery Pro X will arrive soon.

👤The Survivor Filter Electric Pro X Water Filtration System is very easy to use and setup. It has two hoses, one for input and one for output, an ON-OFF push button, and the best part is it's electric, so no hand pumping! The electric feature is what convinced us to buy, as well as the option of battery power, the triple-filtration process, the supplier test report with positive results, and the many high reviews from other users. We have a permanent setup on our kitchen counter for the purpose of drinking water. We fill a large clear plastic pitcher with water from our home well system and use a Survivor Filter to remove nitrates from the water and put it into a large 3 gallon water dispenser with spout. Clean water is always available via the large spout. The amount of water in the pitcher takes about 4 minutes to be pumped into the large water dispensers and the dispensers hold about 7 pitchers. We refill the water dispensers at night, which takes less than 15 minutes, and use 2 pitchers of water per day. The pitcher is almost empty, and we bought a battery operated digital timer that would wake us when it was almost empty. We turn off the Survivor Filter Pro and refill the pitcher again until the large water dispensers is full again. Whenever we travel in our RV travel trailer, we always take the Survivor Filter with us. We bought the Survivor Filter hand pump model as a backup in case the electric unit goes out in an emergency situation. We're very happy with this product and recommend it to others.
