👤I tested this at home with some stagnant pond water and it didn't take away all the color that people like to see but there was a lot of dirt taken out when I cleaned it. It tasted fine and did not have any ill effects. Will be taking it on a backwater canoe trip to see how it works.

👤The water purification system was life-saving. It was the most important part of the equipment list on the 10 day trip to the BWCA wilderness in NE Minnesota. Simple, fast and perfect! I can't say enough good things about this product. It was a solution to provide all 6 of us with a safe and fresh water supply.

👤The headline says that this filter works very well and it's cheaper than most reasonable alternatives. The flow of water was slower than I was hoping for, but it was fine. Nine of us just got done using this filter. It's a good thing. We had to fill it with water that had bits of algae and a number of tiny bugs in it. : No one got sick because neither came through the other side. It's a good thing. It can be difficult to fill a bag to the maximum level, so be sure to get a bigger size than you think you need. The material has some weight and rigidity, which helps.

👤I replaced a pump filter with this and was very happy with the decision. Everyone else who went camping with me was so impressed that they are buying one of their own. Some had issues with other brands of the same type and plan to buy this one. Great for large groups. If it isn't flowing, back wash it.

👤My husband used this backpacking and it was a problem for a while. He had to continue cleaning it. He was not happy with the brand he used.

👤The price tag is hard to beat, and it's exactly what I was looking for. It worked just as well as my friends system.

👤I'm always on the lookout for a new system for long backpacking trips, it's too good not to try. It takes 1-2 hours to purify 1L of water. The Katadyn 6L is half that time. The BeFree filter provides barely a trickle, but thanks to Katadyn, it was improved. When the BeFree refused to flow on day 2, we still had plenty of water capability, because I had both the 10L BeFree and my 6L old style in GNP with 10 guys. I don't know if I'll return this or not. If I keep it, I may try other filters. People say you can use a Sawyer mini. When I put my mini in the line, I couldn't get a single drop through.

👤I haven't used this yet. I got it for the emergency. I ordered both of them from a better know brand. It feels like a better product than the one that 888-270-6611 The bladder feels stronger yet flexible, the nylon strap is convenient, and the little carry case is worth the extra cost. The filters have a little charcoal in them.

2. LifeStraw Personal Official Camping Backpacking

LifeStraw Personal Official Camping Backpacking

Your purchase has an effect. Every LifeStraw product purchased, a school child in need gets safe water for the entire school year.

Brand: Lifestraw

👤This is only the case, that's what I wanted to point out. Not the case's straw. I should have read more. I think it should state that.

👤No where is specified in the case, it is just the case.

👤The ad makes it seem like it is a combination of two things. It is just a case and you should pay close attention.

👤There is no point in this item. You don't need a carrying case if you put it in a plastic bag. Four cases doesn't seem useful because I have 4 life straws. Returned.

👤I read the description and won't complain about it. The case of this product is soft. The Life Straw is made from plastic that is brittle. The case made sense for my bag. The case is squishy. I was hoping it was a harder plastic case. Before you buy, just know this.

👤The case is perfect for the Lifestraw. There is a netted compartment to hold something else. The Lifestraw logo is molded on the front of the case so you know what it is when you look at it. My only complaint... It could be a bit stiff. That is what she said. It protects the Lifestraw and does its job. It is not hard molded plastic. 10/10 would buy again.

👤I thought I was buying a case for the life straw. The case was only received.

👤I thought I was ordering the straw. It was a big disappointment. My mistake. You have to order a straw separately.

👤I expected a case and a lifestraw when I purchased this product. I received a case and nothing else. The pictures show the complete straw and case, and the ad is misleading. Very disappointed.

👤It's great to have this. I haven't tried. It will be useful in an emergency.

👤It's great to have this. I haven't tried. In case of an emergency, it comes handy.

Brand: Heikln

👤The value is great. It has held up after a lot of hiking. The style is hard to fill up with water spilling out past 1.5L and it would be easier to clean if the mouth piece came off.

👤One of my packs leaked. They are hard to use. I don't recommend this product.

👤Good water bladders. It was easy to clean the lock tight lid.

👤I use it for water with my son when we ride our bikes.

👤Nothing special. I took them backpacking and they worked just fine. There was an opportunity to leak because they were in the back of the bags.

👤We wanted to like these bladders because you get two, but we didn't notice a hole in my bladder, and I was out of water during our hike. The product was not worth it.

👤There are bladders with cleaning tools. Did not leak.

4. LifeStraw Multi Function Filtration Emergency Preparedness

LifeStraw Multi Function Filtration Emergency Preparedness

Widespread use with guarantee. The survival tactical shovel is a very special gift for men and women. A survival shovel kit is a must have for every vehicle. Attaches easily to hydration pack bladders and gravity filters, or just screw it onto a disposable water bottle. The Advanced hollow fiber membrane removes 99% of waterbornebacteria and 99% of waterborne protozoan parasites, which exceeds the EPA drinking water standards. Carbon capsule reduces chlorine, lead and other heavy metals, bad taste and odor, as well as organic chemical matter like pesticides, herbicides, and VOCs. The system includes a Flex water filter, a collapsible soft touch water bottle, and a backwash syringe.

Brand: Lifestraw

👤I received it and have begun experimenting with it. The LifeStraw could be a five-star product by itself. There are two design problems with the FLEX part. The problem is when you squeeze the bottle, the water comes out of the threads on the top of the bottle. If you want to squeeze the dirty water out of your mouth, it is possible to hold the filter top so that the water goes into a cup. Problem 2: Once the water is squeezed past the Lifestraw, you can't squeeze out any more water. You have to open the flexible bottle to get the straw to fit. If you could squeeze out the rest of the water, you wouldn't need to do this because you wouldn't have to taint the top of the straw with your mouth germs. You get 11 ounces of water with dripping. Half of the group traded spit with a shaky flexible bottle and a filter top. It's hard to share water with a traveling companion, which is why I paid an extra price for the LifeStraw with Flex bottle. The flex bottle is just an accessory. I plan to use a liquid to clean the cap and filter top.

👤I have never written a review for an Amazon purchase. I have an account since 2011. I've bought many products that I don't care for, but I haven't written a review. The concept of this is very good. I followed the directions to back flush the filter but was only able to fill my bladder with tap water twice because the white membrane filter was completely restricted. It's fine if you want to blow 35 dollars for emergency and let it go and purchase another one the next time, but don't expect it to last 250 gallons or whatever it says. It's a survival tool solution that will last 2 days. That's all.

👤Not as good as the sawyer mini. The bottle comes with problems. There is a loose fit around the upper threads. You will get dirty water from the area you are drinking from. The flow rate is slower than the sawyer mini. The carbon part of the filter can reduce the taste of plastic by a small amount. If you still want this product, you'll need to ditch the bottle and find something else to drink.

👤Lifestraw does not respond to emails about Customer Service because the bag has a pin hole.

👤I followed all the instructions, but could not get any water to come through it. We only used the sawyer since it wouldn't work.

👤The backpacking filter is really nice. Better tasting water is what you get from a similar filter. It's about as fast as trying to squeeze it through, because I set it up as a gravity system. I'm not using the included bottle as it doesn't make sense in any application that I can think of, but a soft Evernew, sawyer or platypus works great as a "dirty" water container. I hope they start selling the carbon replacement.

Brand: Logest

👤I bought the 4 pack and decided to test it. It was hard to back rinse because you couldn't draw water through it. I found a bad one and tested it again. I opened a third time. Better but still not usable. The best I could do in a minute was barely 250ml. I was hoping that I had found an economical filter to pack away for emergency use, but I will have to return these. Look elsewhere for a usable product and save time and money.

👤I think this is from China. It is likely filled with radiation. I don't know. The information on the package was filled with mistakes and broken English. B. It is not clear how long they last or what the base is. The money was wasted. Buy a product that has credibility.

👤The product says it comes with 2 extra filters per tube, but the extra filters weren't there. This is false advertising, so I contacted the seller.

👤I drank the wrong way. I got food that had been stuck between my teeth after I blew into it. The outflow was blocked by that. The water intake was easy to suck up once the filter was cleaned out.

👤The straw works well. The water tasted like tap water.

👤I didn't have any stomach issues when I used this on a trip to the middle east, I drank water through this device and stuck to hot drinks. The water is different from what your body is used to.

👤We are going on a trip. They seem to be as advertised, but will update after any issues.

👤It's safe to use. It's important for you to have common sense in the likelihood that you need to drink fresh moving water that isn't treated. I live in north Florida. You can bear grylls guy. You can drink your own piss it up.

6. Detachable 0 1 Micron Portable Equipment Emergency

Detachable 0 1 Micron Portable Equipment Emergency

All manufacturing and other defects are covered by their lifetime warranty. The only other straw on the market that can be disassembled is the WS02 water filter straw. The backpacking water filter is made up of four stages: hollow fiber ultrafiltration, coconut shell GAC, and double PP fiber filters. It makes water taste better by removing harmful heavy metals, chlorine, and bad odor. The optimal flow rate is 500ml/min and it can be maintained. It will take at least 5,000 liters of clean water to last a long time. Direct use as a personal water filter; also ideal for connecting with soft water pouch or standard disposable water bottles to squeeze get pure water; even add an extension silicone pipe on emergency water filter for more distance to drink; plus, as a replacement. The Safier Survival tool is FDA, EPA and Food-grade materials that ensure drinking water safety. An ideal tool for many purposes, such as backpacking gear, hiking gear, travel accessories, camping safety & survival equipment and emergency preparedness items. The hiking water filter is a great gift for hikers.

Brand: Membrane Solutions

👤At the same time of life, I bought this item and saw which was better. Below are my pros and cons compared to life straw. 0.2 PM filter has a higher PROS than 0.1 PM filter. Life Straw does not remove heavy metals. 2. To dry and inspect the filter. Life straw cannot be torn apart. 3. Adapt normal water or soft drink bottle. There is no threading to do this. There are red screws on the straw that allow for additional water accessories to be sold separately. There are 1. The price was more than the straw. 2. There is no cap on the intake. The solution was to place a thin plastic between the male and female threads. 3. 1,500 liters is the typical life. The Life Straw filters are 0.2 pm, while the WS02 filters are 0.1 pm. 4. I would say 1/3 compared to the other way around. I think it's due to better filtering, but it's more noticeable when hanging around your neck. Both came with a lanyard to carry around and won't drop to the creek. Both have the same length and diameter. I will purchase this item again. I hope this helps you.

👤I was very impressed with these. These were on my short list because I am a beginner prepper. Many people in our area had broken water pipes. We had these on hand. They are small and light enough to fit in a purse or backpack. They make a nice addition to our camping pack and emergency car kit. I was very pleased with my purchase.

👤I like how it has a way to put water in a bottle. I don't like the idea of people bending down in streams to use a filter. I can't see myself going hiking and having to drink. Or use a container. It's not easy to drink from a container. My home country is Wales when we are hiking there. There are sheep in the wild and I don't feel like trying to get a drink from a river bent over with my backside as a target for a sheep to headbutt me into the river. I can scoop up water if I'm out with my head in the river drinking while a bear decides if I'm next meal. In a bottle keeping an eye on me. Turn it upside down and let it flow into a cup. Just sip away. I have one regret. I didn't buy more because I thought one was good to try, but now the price is out of my range. I regret that I should have gotten the 4 pack instead of the single. The attachment to the bottle is worth it and the product is well built.

👤If you put this onto a 6L bag, watch how fast it works. An empty Dassani water bottle is better than an empty 2L bottle. It's that easy to cut the bottoms off the bottles and fill it up. You can fill up your camper tank in no time. You will have to clean it from time to time because it comes apart quickly. I average a reverse blow up every 3 liters. It worked well past 400L before I cleaned it. It does get dirty, but it's a filter.

Brand: Go Time Gear

👤I used this one time while camping last week and it did a good job of keeping me warm when my sleeping bag wasn't enough, but what's up with the reflective silver inside peeling off? I'm not sure if I got a bad bag or not. I can see it now. Not impressed to be honest. I thought it would hold up for a while. I took a photo and attached it to my review so that you can see what I am saying. The seller didn't respond to my email or respond to my complaint so I am going from 2 stars to 1 and wouldn't recommend this product to anyone. The trash bag has become trash itself.

👤This item is marketed as an "emergency survival gear" and the ratings are quite surprising. I took it with me on the ice fishing trip. I let my son use my canvas bivi while we slept. I ordered some camping gear and saw this item and decided to try it out. It's not a bivy. It's a very large blanket. The item's use as a bivy proved disastrous as my sleeping bag ripped through it. I wouldn't bet my life on a picture of it being used to make a tent. It serves a purpose in an emergency if it's $20 Mylar. I'm giving this item one star because I would never use it as a bivy again.

👤I used this for the first time on a kayaking trip with my brother, and we slept in hammocks. It was pouring rain and we were only laying on them, but the bag worked better after we got cold, so we got inside. I was big for my size. I would recommend this bag for a number of reasons, one being that it is small and compact and takes up very little space, two it works at keeping you warm and repels water, and third it's pretty durable and held up great. I can get another 20 plus uses out of it and 4 for the price, it's a great deal.

👤The product is very small, but it can fit around me with additional room. I am six foot two inches tall and weigh about 300 pounds. I was worried that it would not be easy to put back into the bag. I put it back into the bag and didn't have a problem. We bought 4 so we could have one for each of us. I bought it and I don't regret it.

👤The purchase of my bug out bag is the worst so far. It ripped as it was being taken out of its bag. The bag is more durable than the bivy. The product was disappointing.

👤I bought the Live Bivy emergency sleeping bag as a back up because I wouldn't need it during my trip. The temperature at night was not keeping me warm and my sleeping bag was not keeping me warm. I pulled the Life Bivy out of its package and put it on top of my sleeping bag. I felt warm immediately. It was nice to be able to sleep. Don't buy a sleeping bag that promises to work at low temperatures.

8. CamelBak Bite Replacement Hydration Valve

CamelBak Bite Replacement Hydration Valve

Your purchase has an effect. One purchase, one child, one year of safe water is what your purchase has impact on. The Big Bite Valve is ideal for high performance situations. There is no moving parts in the one-piece design. After each drink, self-seals to eliminate drips.

Brand: Camelbak

👤The pictures are a little deceiving as it appears to be a larger than normal bite. This is the standard bite that came with my original Camelbak. This is exactly what I was looking for, but I thought I had to settle for something else. This is the bag that you want if you own an older bag. I am completely satisfied with the purchase and it fit onto my bag without any problems.

👤It was just as expected. The quality is the same. Thanks!

👤I tried the cheaper knock version first. I went on a hike with that one and it was very difficult to get any water out. Not great when you are at the top of a mountain and need water fast. I didn't finish the hike before I went to buy it on Amazon. It works the same as the original. It was easy to get water, no weird taste, no dripping, no intensely hard bit, just a little pressure. I have had the same backpack for 15 years, the same bladder, and the same tubing, and I know it would have been strong if my toddler had not bit through it. Just get it if you are considering. It is worth it.

👤I bought this as a replacement for the 1.5 L bag. The original valve has a sheath over it. The section is longer than the replacement, but it does not seem to leak. If it does leak, I will test it in the wild. The valve had a tendency to get funky between the sheath and bite section. This shouldn't happen with the new valve. There was no comment on taste. The Arizona sun makes the water hot so your results may be different. I avoided the $6.99 shipping fee by using Prime, because the bite valve for the new bladder is offered by Platypus.

👤I bought this because I have both a Camelbak and a Platypus, and I found the Big Bite value to allow through more water than the HyperFlow that comes by default with the Platypus. I accidentally bit through the softer material of the valve. I bought this one for the Big Zip model and it works perfectly.

👤My hydration system was surplus. I believe in the marine issue. The bite valve it came with was consistently leaking when I got it. It was a weird twist. Garbage is very complicated. I replaced that piece of garbage with a bite valve and a Camelback on off valve. 100% better.

👤I believe I got a lot of hiking done from the original pack. It started leaking about six months ago, so I bought a new one. It has about $0.05 of materials in it, another dime or so for depreciation on the mold, and a lot of profit for someone in the distribution channel. I don't think it should cost more than $6, but I need one and I want it to fit and work.

👤It fit perfectly to my Camelback.

9. LifeStraw Bottle 2 Stage Replacement Filter

LifeStraw Bottle 2 Stage Replacement Filter

High- performance medical Grade hollow Fiber UF Membrane, 2. Medical grade PP Cotton, 3. Coconut Shell Activated Carbon is a medical grade cotton. It's portable and can be used in an emergency to solve a water shortage. The replaceable carbon capsule and hollow fiber filter are in the house. LifeStraw filters up to 1,000 liters of water. Carbon capsule reduces chlorine, odor, and bad taste for 100 liters. Removes 99% of waterbornebacteria and 99% of waterborne protozoan parasites.

Brand: Lifestraw

👤This is my 3rd LifeStraw, which I have had for almost 5 years, and which has traveled all over the world with me. I've used it with tap water from all over the world, including Mexico, Argentina, Turkey, Egypt, and eastern Europe. I never got sick when I used river water. If you want to preserve it, keep it wet. It's useless after it dries out because all the tiny pores get clogged and need to be replaced. I keep mine in a half full of water and it will stay that way for months. My gf and her mom tried to keep their dry when not in use, but they had to throw them out. This is a great product that will save you a lot of money and plastic, as you will never need to buy another bottle of water again. It's hard to suck the water and requires a lot of effort. I find myself drinking less because I am lazy. Hopefully you'll be more productive.

👤The filter works as expected. They were used in the Caribbean last fall. Next week, we will leave country for the Dominican Republic. The water killed me if I didn't report back with an update.

👤I use this filter in my Lifestraw Go water bottle when I'm overseas. The bottled water in the country I am assigned to is not safe to drink. It is full of organisms that will make you sick. The bottled water is not brown. I have gotten sick before buying the filter, but have stayed healthy and happy since I started using it. The filter needs to be replaced every 60 days.

👤In September, I bought a lifestraw on Amazon. The straw filter was malfunctioning. I bought this one as a replacement. There is a town called HorRID. I opened it and it smelled like benzine or gasoline. It was not helped by soaking it in water for 12 hours. The smell persisted and the water smelled as well. Rinsing did not help. They asked me to take a picture of the problem. How can I take a picture of the smell? They didn't help with the first product. LifeStraw is all marketing, terrible and faulty products.

👤The lifestraw Go straw set came with the bottle. The replacement tastes like plastic and leaves a hole in my mouth. I followed the manufacturer's suggestions. I enjoyed the original set so I hope someone from the company reaches out. Can't use it.

👤It's complete waste of money. Quality control does not exist. This still tastes like liquid plastic even after soaking overnight and backflushing. Brita doesn't make replacement bottle parts. I can't get a Lifestraw filter that tastes better than the one my bottle came with, and it's wearing out.

👤I use my Lifestraw bottle whenever I travel outside of the US, and it helped me stay healthy when I was in Guatemala for a volunteer project. Some of the group members used standard water bottles and had tummy troubles. I attribute it to my Lifestraw. I'm ready for new adventures now that my replacement filter fit.

Brand: Essential Value

👤It seems like debris got in there right away after it was tried. I spent the rest of the night trying to get rid of it. After rinsing it out, I tried it with clean water the next day and it had a metallic taste. I will try it again.

👤So far, so good. Product arrived as promised but will have to be updated.

👤It's a good thing to have this in case of an emergency.

👤The product came quickly and was important in the chaos of the day. I know they are ready if I need them. I can use these for camping in the future.

👤Works well. It was used many times and would buy more.

👤No complaints yet, it works fine.

11. Miniwell Ultralight Versatile Accessories Hurricane

👤I bought this for our backpacking trips and have used it a few times. I began bringing it with me to other countries as it gave us a very easy and free clean water source. It worked well in Mexico a few months ago. It's great to get a good amount of security with drinking water. The water holder is made of plastic. It's easy to connect everything up and clean it. The filter runs fast and is safe for us. We've been using this thing for a long time and it keeps running.

👤The water from this river did not make me sick or taste funny, and it was very easy to use, so it was convenient not to have to pack in as much water.

👤The product looks good. The bag it fills has a drip filter attached to it. I will update it when I give it a thorough trial.

👤Good stuff. Well priced. I could keep going, but keep it maintained and you won't have to worry about water. It is on par with higher priced brands. Would recommend. It is light and easy to pack for backpackers.

👤I haven't used it yet. As described.

👤Excellent water purification system! The kit includes a dirty bag with a slide-open top for easy filling, a one liter bag for clean water, an attachment hose with a shut off tube, and a carry sack to keep it all together. The filters are threaded on both ends to accept bottles of water. The dirty water bag can only be attached using the included hose, which is not compatible with standard threads. If you could screw the filter onto the bag instead of using the hose, it would save some bulk. The unit is lighter in weight than the Squeeze filter. I will use this filter on my first few backpacking trips and if there are any issues, I will update this review.

👤The package is complete, compact and lightweight. Many forms of water purification have come and gone over the years. Their benefits and challenges are what they have. This is my go-to for trekking due to the lightweight and compact package. The hanging system is great for basecamp because it saves trips to the water source. The collapsible bottle is perfect for people like me who like the collapsible design. The challenge of shallow water sources can be solved by using a filter pump or a collapsible bowl. The bag seems a bit thinner than other gravity systems, so I worry a bit about puncture, but have had no problems yet.

👤The thing filters water very quickly. I was surprised at how fast it filters the water after putting it up. I thought it would take a while to fill up the bottle. The only thing that is questionable is that you need to monitor the bottle that you are filling up. The pressure builds inside the bag until the water can't filter through anymore, since there is no way for air to escape. You will need to let the air out once in a while. I wish there was a pressure relief valve for the air.
