👤I've tasted several freeze-dried products on the market, and I can say that the best is MH. I've been researching and comparing suppliers for a long time. I don't like this food. I sample before I buy. New emergency food suppliers pop up. The only valid comparison is calories and cost per calories. I have not received anything in exchange for this review, so be advised.
👤It looks good and ready to use.
👤The pro paks are good. These make sense for long term planning.
👤I store them in case. This brand is the best on the market according to reviews. The shelf life is 30 years.
Their tactical assault pack backpack can be used as a military backpack, 3 day assault pack, bug out bag backpack, combat backpack, range bag, hunting backpack, survival backpack, rucksack military army backpack or trekking backpack. Emergency kit for disaster preparation is a must have. Two people are in Ready America emergency survival kits for 72 hours. The American Red Cross recommends basic emergency supplies such as a poncho, a mask, and a hygiene kit. The first aid kit has first aid essentials for minor injuries. Take care of medical emergencies with easy-to-use supplies. It's great for a car emergency kit. In case of an emergency, you need food and water. The food and water pouches were approved by the U.S. Coast Guard and have a 5 year shelf life. There are new additions. The Emergency Kit includes a multi-functional pocket tool with screwdriver, pliers and knife functions, a power station with radio, charging and flashlight capabilities, and so much more. This handy backpack is lightweight and easy to carry, and it is packed with supplies to be ready for emergencies. Wherever it can be easily accessed, store this day pack. A great gift for everyone. This handy backpack is lightweight and easy to carry, and it is packed with supplies to be ready for emergencies. Wherever it can be easily accessed, store this day pack. A great gift for everyone.
👤I might have given this pack 5 stars because it fills an important need. I take a dim view of partial shipments. I've worked for corporations that encouraged the omission of items that were easy to replace. It's a way to maximize profits. When every 35th shipment is lacking a seemingly insignificant item, manufacturers can add millions annually to their bottom line. It looks like an oversight. Some consumers will return a portion of the shipment. Some people will want a discount. Most will accept it. It's difficult to return e-commerce purchases. The Ready America pack should have included two tooth brushes. One arrived. It's possible that this was an oversight. Even if it was.
👤Several items are missing, like multi purpose tool, survival food items, masking tape, etc.
👤It's really poor value for the money with a poor prepared emergency kit that is 888-282-0465 for 2 people for 3 days. The backpack kit I received was missing four of its key items. It was supposed to have waterproof matches and work gloves, but no duct tape. The mask in the kit was printed with no NIOSH certifications, but was advertised as a "NIOSH approved" N95 dust mask. It was completely unsatisfactory on all levels. Don't spend your money or time on this kit.
👤There are several things missing from the pack, like the Duct Tape, Multi-function Pocket tool, Lightsticks, Food Bars, Water purification Tablets, and the Bio-Hazard Bag. Can someone contact me?
👤I bought this for my mother who is a senior citizen and it was delivered on 3/11. The Emergency backpack has items that are missing. The Food Bar is located at 2.Gloves. There is nitrile, 4. Backhand Multi-5. The functional pliers are 6. The Whistle was 5-in-1. The kit contains hygiene items. Emergency Communication Plan 9. Water purification tablets are used. Bag 11 is a bio-hazard. 11 items are missing and waterproof Contacts matches them. How is this possible? MD-Texas
👤Don't waste your money. The radio is powered by a battery. The food is terrible. It would be terrible to be in a disaster and be relying on this pack. The phone charging station is not up to date. Who uses an apple device earlier than an apple device? I spent my money. Don't waste it.
👤Emergency planning is something we do for a living. The bag contains most of the items recommended by FEMA. The radio can be purchased separately. It's lightweight, but it's designed to be lightweight in case of an emergency. I was expecting a bigger bag, but after looking at the neatly packed bag, I realized it was enough for one person with some room for additional items. You will need to purchase a water proof pouch. We will purchase more bags for our vehicles. We have looked at other vendors.
👤What I got was very nice and high quality. My pack was missing a lot of items, but it didn't have the food bar, water purification tablets, bio hazard bag, or waterproof matches. The headlamps is battery powered. If I could get those items, I would give it a five star review, but this is so much missing that I have to give one star. Since I missed the return window, I couldn't reach out to the seller directly. Amazon sent me a replacement and it was the same as the one I received. This is not what it says it is.
A 20 year shelf life is possible. 2, 667 calories per day. It is easy to prepare. Just add some water. The shelf life is up to 25 years. The net weight was 4 lbs 0. 97 Z is 84 kilograms. The net weight was 4 lbs 0. 97 Z is 84 kilograms.
👤Oh my gosh, so much complaining and whining. 1. If preparing for one person, divide the pouch into portions and only prepare 1 portion at a time. 2. Seal in a baggie or jar by rolling the opened top over. Unreconstituted leftovers are not bad in 3 days. 3. The dishes should be beefed up. Add canned chicken, dried vegetables, noodles, instant rice, lentils, or something similar. 4. Why am I looking at this product? Is it for survival or preparation? Is it for disasters? Thousands of books tell you how to get water, store water, and filter water. Food storage is discussed in the same books. The Forstchen book is a good starting point. 5. If you want to survive bad situations, you need to depend on yourself. Reality doesn't care about who you are. You will probably need to save yourself. Ask people who survived Sandy. 6. Today is a great day to start preparing for an uncertain future. Go to the grocery store and buy a box of rice, a jar of chicken bullion cubes, 3 cans of beans, and 2 cans of meat that you will eat. You can eat soup or casseroles for several days for under $10 now. The rest is on you, so remember. Prepare for the future.
👤The money has an outstanding value. The shelf life is 25 years. If you're in the market for long term food, you found the brand. Remember that in a "hunker down" situation, you're not likely to be in a hurry, so just take your time cooking it. My wife was pleasantly surprised by how decent these were. It would be enjoyable to eat this stuff and not die of starvation. Result, compared to normal food, was not bad at all. Result, considering that this stuff has been completely freeze dried and will last into my retirement.
👤Each entree or product is worth 72 hours for one individual but in a single package, so there are no complaints about this. If you want to use this for 9 meals, you need to open each entree and repackage it into three portions or cook it once and save the leftovers. I was hoping it would be packaged in a way that was convenient.
👤A pack of bananas. One pack of oatmeal says brown sugar, but it doesn't taste like it. The other three packs are just soup. The potato soup tastes good, but you want to add vegetables and meat. White soup is what it is. You have to make a huge pot of soup and store it. The humidity can get to open packs. The other packs were not the same as the banana chips. I will not buy it again. I tried to portion out the chicken and rice for a bowl. I got violently ill after eating it.
👤It was deceptive labeling. It's four big packages. If you're by yourself, you'll need a working refrigerator to keep the leftovers in. If you're buying this for a one person scenario, it's not realistic. I have been through an earthquake and I can tell you that grocery stores and electricity won't be there.
Carry pocket with quick access slot The Seventy2 Pro builds on the legacy of their signature design, with enough survival supplies for two, additional tools, and a redesign of the carrying system. The 600D, waterproof tarpaulin is now situated on a soft-frame harness with a new shoulder and straps for a true all-day carry. The PRO includes a full-tang and rubber grip knife, anti-fog ski goggles, upgraded first-aid kit, metal water bottle, and more. A first aid kit, emergency food ration, fire starters, an emergency shelter, a tri-band radio, water filter, and more are included in the expanded insert. The insert contains step-by-step survival instructions that detail how to build a fire, administer first aid, and stay warm.
👤The components and gear are of high quality. In a stress situation Embossed instructions are needed. It includes a flash light, but I added a Headlamp. Also T-paper. I keep it in the house so I can get to it.
👤I loved this. The essentials for the zombie apocalypse were organized. I didn't want to review the materials. Great job on the product.
👤Everything came as advertised. This is a great addition to my goals. Couldn't be happier!
👤We feel less anxious about handling a local crisis now that we have a well-thought out kit.
👤The Kitbashed Survival You Tube channel review is overpriced.
There are twelve 200 kCal bars in the pack. It was approved by the U.S. Coast Guard.
👤That is what these taste like. Really. Maybe not when you are watching Naked and Afraid in your living room. These things will be the best thing you have ever put in your mouth after 36 hours without food. I was trapped in my truck for 30 hours in a rest area in Montana during a snowstorm. I only had a half eaten bag of Cheetohs and a full bottle of Jack Daniels. I would have given my wallet full of cash for some of these things. I will always have some sort of sustenance in my vehicles. I keep some water in my cars and truck. It's just common sense. There is a I don't drink anymore. I hate Cheetohs now. These things are really good. It's like cinnamon hard cookies. They don't make you thirsty. They are small and well packaged. Get some packages. Put it in each vehicle. You could put one in your pack. For the price and convenience? You would be crazy not to. I definitely learned from it. Thanks for reading.
👤The bars that I got today were manufactured in May of last year. Only three out of five stars are given to getting less than half of the shelf life.
👤I have never eaten in a survival situation. I'll come back and update if this website is still alive. If you are eating your 1st or your 101st you will determine whether or not DATRX looks, tastes, and feels great. The experts and common sense tell me that you should try out survival food before you ever need it, so you'll know at least a small part of what it's like to eat and eat. A small sample won't give you the context of what to do in the winter with moose and other evergreens. They might taste like a steak, but not a moose steak. I tried a few in the comfort of my home. Really? They're factory-packaged in very snug, heavy-duty wrappers, so there's no need to carry around a backpack or accelerate the ingredients' decomposition. I can't vouch for that, it's got a little tropical flavor, but it's not like a dry cracker. There are very few large chunks of anything in them. They're powdery and drying to the mouth. You don't need water to choke one down. I have yet to demonstrate past a bite. If your idea of a survival bar has a bunch of rowdy locals and a line of tappers, you should not click on the wrong website. If you want a product that's been around for a long time, you need to make sure you keep a bunch of these, check the expiration, and set your calendar towel in case. We're back to pre-IBM days, re- ordering every few years. This isn't one of those things that lasts 25 years, even if it's fresh out of the pack, because it tastes like it's been around that long. I appreciate that a company has made the trade-off between taste, texture, and all those comforts against the practicalities of survival, even going to the trouble to print clear instructions about food survival and water consumption on every pack of their product. 5 stars for the product, price, light weight, packaging, and encouragement.
Also, note: When the oxygen has been removed, bags may not shrink like vacuum bags. Absorbers only absorb 21% of the air, which is oxygen. The air volume will be gone about 1/3 of the time. The apple-cinnamon flavor is pleasant. It is easy to store an optimal balance of cholesterol and vitamins. Each bar can be eaten in six portions with a total of 2400 calories.
👤You should ignore anyone who reviews this on the basis of how it tastes. This is not a camping or hiking snack. When you find yourself trapped in the wilderness or in your own home after a disaster, survival ration tastes bland or bad to discourage excessive eating. These taste ok. It was kind of a cinnamon shortbread. For its intended use, texture and quality are fine. I have received 6 of these packages so far and all of them have been sealed perfectly. I put a second layer of vacuum plastic over my survival food to protect it from accidental puncturing and to extend its lifespan. If you get any that have a vacuum loss, just eat it or throw it away. Poor handling in transit or a minor factory defect are the reasons why they're not worth a 1 star review. The calories come out to $.001 per calories. I've been searching for and buying long term storage emergency ration for over a decade and never have I found a better price in the market. Put these in a box in the back of a closet and then buy a bunch of canned and dry foods for your "shtf" meals. These calories are not a meal replacement. To make sure you're getting something resembling real sustenance, keep a bottle of multi vitamins, a few gallons of water, and a couple pounds of freeze dried potatoes or rice nearby. I'm up to 15. I haven't had a single issue with them losing vacuum. Don't let bad luck deter you from purchasing these. If you keep buying these low cost alternatives, the price gougers will start lowering their prices.
👤It appears to be a single pack.
👤The product is not accurate. One pack is not 4 days of food, but one day of food. This product has a shelf life of 5 years and will last 2 years. I am angry with the seller for misrepresenting the product. I would love to have my money back. I could shop locally and find a better deal.
👤We thought we were getting a box of four, not one bar. The image showed four. Since that time, it has changed. The price for 4 seems reasonable. The cost for one is out of line. The product was useless because of the broken vacuum seal. The bars are good for emergency food. We've bought them from local retailers before. The experience of this seller was not great.
👤I ordered 8 boxes and got 8 bars that were not a good value and the bars were good but not at this price.
👤The vacuum seal wasn't intact. The company uses an illustration that shows 4 packages. Caveat emptor is not for purchase.
👤Any type of emergency food is very expensive. These single packs are also selling other places for $20+ each. Also. For $5, you get 2400 calories and a 5 year shelf life, which is a good deal for something that you can just open and eat. You can get these from Wal-mart for five cents cheaper than Amazon will charge, but you have to order four of them. It's a very dense bread type bar. More powdery than bread, like gingerbread. It tastes like a sweet dessert with a hint of cinnamon. It's not something I'd go out of my way to snack on, but it tastes good and is similar to a dense bar. It doesn't taste bad like other emergency ration bars that taste like chemicals or gross. There are some that are my favorite for taste and price. It's worth $5 to have a car glove box and all your backpacks. Just in case. If you break it into the six 400 calories sections, you'll get one of these.
25 year shelter life If you store your emergency food away from extreme temperatures and humidity, it will stay fresh and tasty for up to 25 years. Adding calories and nutrition to your emergency kit is an ideal way to kick start your emergency preparation. Soft-sided pouch are a budget-friendly way to store and transport your emergency food supply. There are puffed meals. The hot entree and dessert combo will help keep you calm in a crisis. Simply add water and cook for 12 to 15 minutes, then prepare pudding by adding water and mixing. If you need emergency water solutions, visit the Augason Farms brand page. Food for all ages. There is something for everyone in the meals; young children and adults love them. Doubles for outdoors are a lightweight, refrigerator-free way to haul and prepare camping food.
Their customer service wants you to be satisfied with your purchase. Absolutely no risk. The backpack comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Today is the day to get yours for family and friends. Each packet contains 9 food bars. The Coast Guard was approved for 5 years shelf life. The country of origin is the United States. It is designed to sustain life until rescue or additional food is available. It is designed to sustain life until rescue or additional food is available.
👤A lot of people think these are not healthy. These are survival bars. They have a high calories to weight ratio and are shelf stable. I like the packaging, it's very air/water tight, and they taste good, I'd be happy to have something sweet in a survival situation. Health food can be found elsewhere.
👤These are not healthy. These are bars for survival. If lost on a hike, patriot sells them in bulk for 100 bucks for 30 days. The lemon taste of the other bars made me buy these. We didn't buy for taste, but to survive. My show ends on 3/25. The seal was fresh and strong. See my picture.
👤The coconut and cinnamon sos bars are small, but they have a good taste. I'm doing a challenge to eat sos bars. I would give it a try for an emergency situation, you never know when you might be in a tight spot.
👤There are 31 grams of sugar. Palm oil, Corn starch, wheat flour... I was looking for a bar with a lot of calories. These have toxic ingredients. Had to throw them out. It's SIGH!
👤I would never have bought these bars if I had known the high sugar content.
👤I opened one of the packages and it was great. The ration bars inside each pouch are sealed individually and kept fresh for days after opening the outer cover. It was weeks, actually. I put them in a container. I only used four bars over the last two weeks. That's using some for at least 4 breakfast smoothies and a couple of small snacks. A quarter of a bar makes a great snack, and I've added that same amount, all crumbled, to smoothies with fruit, yogurt, icewater, instant coffee, and it's great stuff! A quarter-bar is only about 62.5 calories, so it was a good time to get some first aid classes. I'm back in Coastal VA and I want to be prepared for the local disasters. I ordered the S.O.S. Rations double pack. Yes, COCONUT. The packages arrived quickly. It's all I can do. Oh, yeah, with it. I'm going to order more as soon as I finish this review. Great stuff, whether you want it for dessert or an emergency. I'm going to open a bottle of chianti and watch C-span.
👤Why are there so many people complaining about the taste and sugar content? These bars are used if you get lost in the forest. These are not for camping, diet or challenge. If you are worried about taste and sugar, you won't survive. It is plain and simple. If it gets so bad that you have to eat these, you will have what you find and eat, regardless of sugar content or taste. These are good for preppers. I thought I was prepared for Hurricane Katrina. I had a freezer full of frozen meats and food, a garage full of bottled water, and light canned goods. My home flooded into my second story. The freezer full of food became fish food because the generator no longer worked. If you keep food in multiple locations, it won't save you if it's under water.
A high energy value and ready to eat. The total of 120 bars with 200 calories per bar is in the value pack. It is packaged in a way that makes it easy to ration and store in your survival and disaster kit. The coconut flavor is superior and all natural. 5 year shelf life for USCG, Canadian Coast Guard, EC and NZ approvals. A high energy value and ready to eat.
👤I got a bunch of these five years ago for some car kits. The two kits I kept in the garage were found during fall cleaning. I was pleasantly surprised when I checked out the food. The MREs had held up well, but one cheese spread packet was not good. The Datrex are rationed. They were perfect. The packaging was tight and the taste was good. Two of these and a packet of peanuts are all you need for a light lunch. The garage has been exposed to variable temperatures over the course of a year. I have 10 minutes to refresh the contents of the car kits. If my friends want to eat these, that's not a problem. Some people have trouble opening the bars. That is a pain. It would be great to see a notification that says "pull here" so you can find the edge of the wrapper. I use a small knife. These are rather wet. You need to chew them slowly. They come apart easily since they're pressed blocks of powders and shortening. If you're looking for long-term food that doesn't need a lot of care, they're a great deal. They'll be fine if you get 'em and forget 'em.
👤I will keep these in my pantry for the rest of my life. It is nice to know that you have some calories waiting for you. About like a dry cookie, they are not bad tasting. Not in a bad way. They don't make you thirsty. It's a good thing to have in your pantry. Hope this helps someone.
👤If you're stuck in a survival situation, Datrex is a good source of calories. I would rather carry 2 of these 2400 calories packs than the blue 3600 calories pack. Less chance of wasting money. 1200 calories per day x 4 is plenty of energy to get out when you need to, even if you're carrying 2 of these. If you put 1 in your bugout bag, you can ration 800 calories a day for 3 days and still cover basic body functions. They can be cooked down with water to make a decent hot meal for a little boost in confidence. They're a bit dry to just eat without something to drink, making them more palatable with some water between mouthfuls. Be careful how you store these. The mylar outer package can get damaged if not protected. They will be ok for a while, but not for long if they get damp. I ate one as a test and it was still viable, even though I had a few get punctured in my backpack or behind the seat of my truck. The small bars are wrapped in a thin plastic covering, but they are not sealed. It helps keep the bars together.
👤They were delivered in a box. I opened the vacuum sealed in white pack. The bars were wrapped in a clear film. I couldn't figure out how to open the thing after taking one out. I peeled the plastic off of the corner of the cookie block. They taste like a coconut pecan Sandy cookie, like someone else mentioned. I thought of Lord of the Rings and the lamass bread that Frodo and Sam had to eat. If you have to use these in a situation where you have to deliver the ring of power to the lava river of Mount Doom, you should pretend you are on a journey.
The essential surgical kit. There are 5 different food options in each bucket. It is easy to prepare an entree using just water. There is a long-lasting storage. Food pouches keep food fresh for up to 25 years. There are 5 unique ready-to- eat freeze-dried, gluten-free entrées in the vegetarian packs. They have shelf-stable food for hiking and camping.
👤I looked at the individual description labels on the back of the bucket and found wheat and soy. The first ingredient is wheat. The code for the bucket bar says it's free of wheat. I paid more money for this product. The time has expired for me to get my money back. I trusted this company to not sell fraudulent goods, but they have deceived people who need to eat wheat. This product can cause death if people have a sensitivity to thegluten.
👤It is not recommended for anything other than emergency use. Food items could not have been selected by anyone with a food allergy, but in an actual emergency, it's better than no food at all.
👤My husband is a prepper. Every family member has a bag that is designated for bug-out. We've tried many of these types of dry packed foods, so when we saw the chance to try this bucket at a discount, we agreed. I did not get this bucket for free and we prepared one of every meal to give a fair and honest review. There are 3 Teriyaki and Rice packs, 3 Chicken Pot Pie packs, 4 Loaded Baked Potato packs, and 7 Yogurt Flavored Desert Mix packs. There are 17 packs, with only 10 being actual meals. I couldn't rate this at 5 stars because of this. I assumed from reading the description that they would be individual meals or at least meals designed for 2 people. Each packet contains 4 calories. This works out for my husband and sons, but not for a single person. They would have to split the packets or make all of them and try to save some for later. I would split the packets, but you have to worry about the stuff spilling or mis-measuring. Not good. The food is pretty good. I'm not expecting a 5 star restaurant quality flavor in my meal, I'm speaking from experience of eating many similarly packed meals. We had my sister-in-law over for dinner and she made a lot of food, so we had another taste tester in the house. The individual reviews are listed below. The soup has tomato Basil. The bucket is the house favorite. My husband had a few small bowls. I don't think we mixed it well enough, there were little clumps of powder in it while we were eating. It was still the favorite in my home. When we go hiking in the cold months, we had a discussion about mixing it into thermoses. I would boil it longer, and use a whisk instead of mixing it with a soup spoon, because that would be the only thing that would be different. 2. Potato casserole. My favorite. My husband and my sister-in-law both rated this as their number two. I can't tell if it's bacon or ham, but it's delicious. It tastes like potato soup. You need a bowl and a spoon for soup, not a casserole. I might boil it a little longer next time, the ham/ bacon chunks were a little hard, but still tasty. If I'm going to make this while camping or something. I would add some shredded cheese to it. Maybe some green onions. 3. The chicken pot pie is made with chicken. The one that had mixed reviews was this one. I thought it was okay, husband didn't care for it, and sister-in-law couldn't eat it. My sister-in-law couldn't handle the texture, but we all agreed that it needed salt and pepper. It was very sticky. This was my toddler's favorite, but he doesn't talk, so I can't tell you why he loved it, just that it disappeared from his plate faster than any other entree choice. I can tell you that it had a very strong flavor, and that may be why I liked it more than everyone else. 4. Both Teriyaki and Rice are made with teriyaki sauce. Yuck. They can't all be perfect. I felt like I was eating ginger when I chewed it. I was unable to finish mine. My sister-in-law admitted that she ate too much ginger. My husband added a healthy dose of soy sauce, which toned down the ginger, but not enough for me to eat anymore. He said he almost liked the soy sauce more than the potato casserole. It isn't all bad, so plan to doctor it a bit. My toddler ate a good chunk of his portion, so he didn't dislike it. 5. There is yogurt. This was unexpected. We thought it would be thick and creamy, but it was very thin. Thinner than the soup. I used cold tap water to mix it with, but I think it would be better served in the cold. We might put it in the fridge next time. I'm not sure. The yogurt was divided into 3 mugs. It was about 1 1/2 to 2 inches deep per mug. We all agreed that it smelled amazing, like a cake batter or ice cream. The flavor was a bit less intense and the aftertaste was a bit too strong. It's not a terrible desert type. It's calories you can get through a straw. It could be worse. The bucket was pretty good, but I'm not sure which one was supposed to be the breakfast. We have plenty of meals to keep in our shelter, and we might use some of them for camping or hiking trips. We have time to eat them because they are good for 25 years.
The no-mess, no-melt snack or dessert can be stored for up to 3 years. There is no need for refrigeration. A pack of emergency food has a shelf life of 5 years. The US Coast Guard has standards. The requirement of SOLAS 74/83 is met. Both are Kosher and Halal. It is high in vitamins and minerals. There is noCholesterol or Tropical Oils. No peanut butter or peanut oil. There is no thievery provoking. The temperature can be as low as -40 F to 300F.
👤The bar was pristine and the vacuum seal held up well when I opened up the package eight years ago. It was the same as when it was packaged. I love the consistency of the short bread that it has. It was moist and non-thirsty. I was relieved to know that these last longer than the expire date. I'm going to throw the rest out and buy again because I can. The family had to taste a bit to make sure they would eat them. Some of them are very picky.
👤I bought a bunch of emergency ration for the family to sample and decide which ones they would rather have in our 72 hour kits. The winner in taste and texture was these. The flavor is very similar to a sugar cookie that you would buy at the store. It's easy to bite a piece off of the thick ration. The texture is the same as eating a cookie. I plan to keep these in my carry bag as a snack when I miss a meal. The highest score for the whole family was achieved by the ones that had the best flavor and texture. I plan to put two of the packages in the emergency kit. 1200 calories per day is not enough for me in a high-stress situation. When I finished the ration, I was not thirsty, even though I would appreciate a bit of water. In an emergency situation water may not be easy to come by.
👤There are two dangers to buying a product of this nature. 1. The shelf life of the items could be shortened by less than five years if the packaging is compromised. 2. The manufacture date could be outdated. They will have a shorter shelf life if they were not manufactured recently. The item arrived on time with intact factory sealed packaging. They were only 3 months into their five year shelf life at the time of purchase. TheLIABLE SELLER of this type of product
👤I have used Mainstay for 13 years. Datrex was always very dry, with an almost cardboard texture, before that time. I discovered the Mainstay ration at a fair. They stay fresh even after 5 years of storage in my emergency kit, and I carry 2 packs of the ration so I have enough for about 6 days in a true emergency.
👤Happy to report that the flavor is ok. It is a sugar cookie with a hint of lemon. When you separate the portions, they don't fall apart and turn to dust. The product is in its blocks. It doesn't have the cottonmouth effect so you won't be getting wet after eating it. I think this is the best one I have had so far. I get the full 5 years out of them because they were packaged this year.
👤A lot of people look for food to put in a go-bag. Emergency ration are not made for that situation. For a 72 hour situation, none of them have enough calories or calories at all. You should buy MRE's for your bag. The emergency ration is intended for a shelter where you are sitting all day and not using much energy. It might be days before you are rescued if you leave some in your car during the winter or the desert during the summer. They are not food. They are low energy survival food. The Mainstay bar has over 3000 calories in it. The package is not re-sealable. If it is raining or there are insects, the bar might be ruined if you don't eat it all. The package comes with a pre-portioned "cake" that you can break or cut. Most of the brands were sealed in 200 or 400 calories. The Mainstay bar can't be re-sealed, which is a weakness for this product. The Mayday brand is very soft. It has the same texture as a sugar cookie, but without the sugar flavor. It doesn't have any taste. If you ate 800 calories, you would get most of your vitamins and minerals. The food bars that I tried seem to be approved by the US Coast Guard, which makes them seem to be intended for use on a life raft. I will not be buying more of this brand because the wrapper cannot be re-sealed. If you keep the package in a bag until you need it, you can get around the issue. That is a possibility. The vitamins and calories in this brand are enough for a survival situation, but the fact that it can't be re-sealed is a major issue for me. These are not a snack, they are emergency ration and are not intended to taste good, so check my reviews of other survival bars. Unless you are injured, you should not eat for the first 24 hours. After a few days, you will not starve to death.
