👤I've been buying these bars for a while. They have been an excellent product. The bar has been slowly decreasing over the past year. I didn't mind initially but now it's gotten out of hand. The original bar's size has been chopped away and there's more wrapper hanging than before. I am very disappointed in PureProtein for thinking they can cut costs without consumer's notice. Let's see how much they care about their bottom-line when they start losing customers. I've begun to buy from the company.
👤I ate my first bar from this order. The first quarter of the chocolate peanut butter bar was very good. I bit down on a paper-like material. The other bars in the other packages should be free of surprises.
👤I can't do much in the way of exercising anymore because I'm confined to a power chair. I was gaining weight. I talked to my niece who is a nurse and she helped me learn to eat better. She recommended these bars because she said I needed more meat in my diet. I love them! They give me a lot of nutrition, they taste good, and they curb the sweet cravings. I'm down 18 pounds after 10 months.
👤What is that? This plastic is not good for you! I was in the middle.
👤If you're new to this brand and want to try a few flavors, this might be a good choice, but in my opinion only the chocolate peanut butter is good enough for me to buy again. The chocolate chip has a metallic aftertaste, and the chocolate deluxe tastes like a sandy tootsie role. Other flavors available on Amazon are about $1/bar, so choosing this one isn't really saving any money over other options. The dark chocolate coconut and chocolate peanut caramel flavors are good choices.
👤I love to bake as much as I love to eat. It's a perfect combination for packing on the pounds and putting myself at risk of Type II Diabetes in my family. I have seen remarkable results from changing just two things in my diet, since I read about it in The Drinking Man's Diet. I've lost 20 lbs., gotten my blood sugar under control, and have stable blood sugar. The first change was to eliminate as much sugar as possible and the second was to increase my intake of meat and dairy products. The bars turned out to be our favorite after several attempts. The taste and convenience are appealing to us. They are on the list as a regular item. It took about four months for the cravings to go away, but once it was over, it was done. These bars taste sweet enough to stop cravings, while the sodas taste nasty.
👤The best bars for the price are the PureProtein bars. They use a variety of different types of milk and whey products. The bars in the multipack range from 20-21g of protein, and 180- 200 calories. There is some sugar alcohol, but don't eat too much of it at the same time. There is a blend of vitamins and minerals in these bars. They don't use the best absorbing versions of each of these vitamins, but they are taking them in with food so there is a slight better absorption. The taste is not great. You have to remember that you are eating a bar for the benefits, not a bar for a snack. This will not be as good as a Snickers bar, but it will be a pretty good bar, and I think it will be good. These things have a good look for getting some food in. 20-21g of fat, 6-16g of fat, and 2g of fiber. It's nice for people who have trouble stuffing food down to know that they are small. The flavor was 4/5. The chocolate chip and chocolate deluxe are both delicious. The chocolate peanut butter tastes like it was made by an off- brand. If you aren't used to eating bars like that, you may think they're a little "mushy" or "chewy". These are not candy bars. The product has a texture that is 888-609- The value is 5. The best value for a milk/whey bar I could find was these. Every bar that is close to the price contains soy, and every bar that is close to the price contains milk orhey. The bars would be ranked at a 5. I think these are the best bars because of the solid ingredient list and the fact that they are a little better than other bars. I would recommend these to anyone who is trying to get more calories in their diet. The only better option is a bar, but that doesn't pack as well.
A 20 year shelf life is possible. 2, 667 calories per day. It is easy to prepare. Just add some water. The shelf life is up to 25 years. The net weight was 4 lbs 0. 97 Z is 84 kilograms. The net weight was 4 lbs 0. 97 Z is 84 kilograms.
👤Oh my gosh, so much complaining and whining. 1. If preparing for one person, divide the pouch into portions and only prepare 1 portion at a time. 2. Seal in a baggie or jar by rolling the opened top over. Unreconstituted leftovers are not bad in 3 days. 3. The dishes should be beefed up. Add canned chicken, dried vegetables, noodles, instant rice, lentils, or something similar. 4. Why am I looking at this product? Is it for survival or preparation? Is it for disasters? Thousands of books tell you how to get water, store water, and filter water. Food storage is discussed in the same books. The Forstchen book is a good starting point. 5. If you want to survive bad situations, you need to depend on yourself. Reality doesn't care about who you are. You will probably need to save yourself. Ask people who survived Sandy. 6. Today is a great day to start preparing for an uncertain future. Go to the grocery store and buy a box of rice, a jar of chicken bullion cubes, 3 cans of beans, and 2 cans of meat that you will eat. You can eat soup or casseroles for several days for under $10 now. The rest is on you, so remember. Prepare for the future.
👤The money has an outstanding value. The shelf life is 25 years. If you're in the market for long term food, you found the brand. Remember that in a "hunker down" situation, you're not likely to be in a hurry, so just take your time cooking it. My wife was pleasantly surprised by how decent these were. It would be enjoyable to eat this stuff and not die of starvation. Result, compared to normal food, was not bad at all. Result, considering that this stuff has been completely freeze dried and will last into my retirement.
👤Each entree or product is worth 72 hours for one individual but in a single package, so there are no complaints about this. If you want to use this for 9 meals, you need to open each entree and repackage it into three portions or cook it once and save the leftovers. I was hoping it would be packaged in a way that was convenient.
👤A pack of bananas. One pack of oatmeal says brown sugar, but it doesn't taste like it. The other three packs are just soup. The potato soup tastes good, but you want to add vegetables and meat. White soup is what it is. You have to make a huge pot of soup and store it. The humidity can get to open packs. The other packs were not the same as the banana chips. I will not buy it again. I tried to portion out the chicken and rice for a bowl. I got violently ill after eating it.
👤It was deceptive labeling. It's four big packages. If you're by yourself, you'll need a working refrigerator to keep the leftovers in. If you're buying this for a one person scenario, it's not realistic. I have been through an earthquake and I can tell you that grocery stores and electricity won't be there.
The perfect gift is a survival kit or tactical gear for hikers, campers, survivors, hunters, or anyone who needs it. It's the perfect tool box for your car. The OGT Survival Axe Elite is the ultimate multitool. The tool has 30 features and is ready for any situation, from chopping, clearing debris, demolition, pounding in and removing tent stakes, or repairing your deer stand. All steel design. The build includes a hammer head and claw, a hatchet blade that can be resharpened, and a glass filled nylon handle. The Sawyer blade is replaced. The saw blade folds out of the handle, locks into place, and will see through anything you need it to. The shut off wrench with integrated bottle opener saves the day in many ways. A tool kit. The survival axe is small enough to fit in a glove box or small bag and large enough to do damage. The seat belt cutter and window punch are at the base of the car escape tool. High quality products. Off Grid Tools has the latest and greatest outdoor tools that are functional, versatile, high quality, and innovative. During long adventures hiking, hunting, fishing, and camping, put survival in the palm of your hand. High quality products. Off Grid Tools has the latest and greatest outdoor tools that are functional, versatile, high quality, and innovative. During long adventures hiking, hunting, fishing, and camping, put survival in the palm of your hand.
👤Got this today. The blade is not sharp enough to cut anything larger than 2 inches in diameter. The hammer claw broke when I pulled out a nail. I'm going to request a refund as this tool seems to be very poorly made and cheap, but I've found better devices that are much better built.
👤It looks useful in the photos. I know that the new version is made in the US, but it's not as good as it could be. The handle is uncomfortable and digs into your hand, the grip bumps make it worse, the knob for opening and closing the saw blade isn't cheap, and you have to take the handle completely apart to change blades. The person who ground the edges is barely hanging on. Prayers and thoughts go out to them. I can't stress enough how this is a piece of furniture that you would buy from a case in a smoke shop. The face had a rounded curve, so I had to grind down the hammer end. Maybe it was to make it easier to pry out nails. The face needs to be straight. You will never use this survival tool to tighten bolts. Ever. If you did it, you'd look like an idiot and lose the respect of your male role model. It would be like having a screw driver attachment on a pizza tray. I wish I had listened to the majority of people who said against buying multi use survival tools. Buy a folding saw. hatchets can be flipped around and used as a hammer and a folding saw won't take up much extra room in your pack. You will be better off.
👤There are some valid gripes about this product. It is an issue. The blade is not just poorly ground, it is also sturdy. It's almost a joke. The edge is folded in a part and I will need to sharpen it with a file. That's what it's being said. It's a great general purpose tool. It is light and has everything you need for an emergency blade. Don't do it if you want to go camping or build a fort. It's an emergency tool. It will take longer. I own hatchets, tomahawks, and other axes. I will take my Cold Steel "Tactical Hawk" along with some other specialized steel if I go camping or know in advance that I'm going into something serious. Four stars because I love the fact that I can use my car as a car escape tool, and I also love the fact that I can use it as a weapon. One star was removed because of the blade. If it fits what you actually need, it's worth $60.
👤The tool has some issues, but the concept is great. The blade of the axe is very dull and will need to besharpened before use. The claw is not very large. I worry that it will break if I try to pry a nail off the wall. The sheath that comes with the tool is cheap. I was expecting a tool made in the USA to be better at this price.
Their customer service wants you to be satisfied with your purchase. Absolutely no risk. The backpack comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Today is the day to get yours for family and friends. Each packet contains 9 food bars. The Coast Guard was approved for 5 years shelf life. The country of origin is the United States. It is designed to sustain life until rescue or additional food is available. It is designed to sustain life until rescue or additional food is available.
👤A lot of people think these are not healthy. These are survival bars. They have a high calories to weight ratio and are shelf stable. I like the packaging, it's very air/water tight, and they taste good, I'd be happy to have something sweet in a survival situation. Health food can be found elsewhere.
👤These are not healthy. These are bars for survival. If lost on a hike, patriot sells them in bulk for 100 bucks for 30 days. The lemon taste of the other bars made me buy these. We didn't buy for taste, but to survive. My show ends on 3/25. The seal was fresh and strong. See my picture.
👤The coconut and cinnamon sos bars are small, but they have a good taste. I'm doing a challenge to eat sos bars. I would give it a try for an emergency situation, you never know when you might be in a tight spot.
👤There are 31 grams of sugar. Palm oil, Corn starch, wheat flour... I was looking for a bar with a lot of calories. These have toxic ingredients. Had to throw them out. It's SIGH!
👤I would never have bought these bars if I had known the high sugar content.
👤I opened one of the packages and it was great. The ration bars inside each pouch are sealed individually and kept fresh for days after opening the outer cover. It was weeks, actually. I put them in a container. I only used four bars over the last two weeks. That's using some for at least 4 breakfast smoothies and a couple of small snacks. A quarter of a bar makes a great snack, and I've added that same amount, all crumbled, to smoothies with fruit, yogurt, icewater, instant coffee, and it's great stuff! A quarter-bar is only about 62.5 calories, so it was a good time to get some first aid classes. I'm back in Coastal VA and I want to be prepared for the local disasters. I ordered the S.O.S. Rations double pack. Yes, COCONUT. The packages arrived quickly. It's all I can do. Oh, yeah, with it. I'm going to order more as soon as I finish this review. Great stuff, whether you want it for dessert or an emergency. I'm going to open a bottle of chianti and watch C-span.
👤Why are there so many people complaining about the taste and sugar content? These bars are used if you get lost in the forest. These are not for camping, diet or challenge. If you are worried about taste and sugar, you won't survive. It is plain and simple. If it gets so bad that you have to eat these, you will have what you find and eat, regardless of sugar content or taste. These are good for preppers. I thought I was prepared for Hurricane Katrina. I had a freezer full of frozen meats and food, a garage full of bottled water, and light canned goods. My home flooded into my second story. The freezer full of food became fish food because the generator no longer worked. If you keep food in multiple locations, it won't save you if it's under water.
It doesn't need to be refrigerated until after it's opened. A delicious dessert or snack! There is a chocolate cookie sandwich. There is no need for interment. Ice cream is freeze-dried to keep it fresh. It won't stick to your fingers, and it won't make a mess on your shirt. No mess with ice cream. Ready to eat. The ice cream sandwich is ready to be eaten out of the bag. There was no need for preparation. TerraCycle uses recycled used packaging to reduce waste. The shelf life of ice cream is two years. It's great for outdoor recreation adventures.
👤These are a great option to satisfy a sweet tooth when regular ones are unavailable. The ice cream sandwich is a little smaller than a generic ice cream sandwich. The texture of the ice cream is that of marshmallows. The outer cookie part is average. The ice cream sandwich has the same taste. The price is high but the shelf life is extensive. I'm satisfied and I'll keep buying when they are on sale. The item needs to be shipped in a box. I ordered one to try out and it was crushed when I received it because it was in one of the plastic bags.
👤I would never buy a meal from this place again because it was so bad and I threw up after eating 2 bites.
👤I have not had these things in a long time. I still love them. It was cracked and crumbled up a little in each individual package, but theses are great fun to give to family members and kids as gifts, and they taste like a sweet air waiter. If you have a sweet tooth and don't have to worry about them melting or going bad forever, this is the best deal for the money on Amazon. Excellent stuff. It was worth a try. I only say 4/5 stars because of the fact that there are a couple that were broken up and falling apart in comparison to the ones that were mostly intact. Good stuff.
👤I bought 3 and 2. It was ok. It's great to show kids what astronauts eat. It is exactly what it says it is. The 3rd one we couldn't eat because the wrapper was open. This product is still recommended by me as issues like this happen from time to time.
👤I was disappointed with the lack of flavor in the bars. You get barely a hint of what you would think they should be, even though the options are labeled asflavored. They were almost always broken when they arrived. It's hard to eat.
👤This product is only good for less than two years, which is not long for a long shelf life. I can't comment on the actual flavor because I haven't tried it yet. I was not happy with shelf life. I will lower the rating if the taste is bad.
👤I only like these ice cream bars when I'm in a kid's museum and there's a gift shop. If it's your first time, this would be a good treat, and I thought it would be a good treat after a long day of backpacking. It seems like these things are best used for nostalgia. It tastes decent and is interesting to have a dessert like this in the woods. If you're not concerned about that kind of thing, a chocolate bar with some marshmallows would be a better option.
👤From one package to the next, it has the same taste and texture. We use them in our emergency kits, in bug out bags, and in the cars. I like that it doesn't make a mess to eat. As you break them into pieces or bite them, they get a bit flaky. Not messy.
Each bar can be eaten in six portions with a total of 2400 calories. There are 18 bars with 200 calories per bar. It is packaged in a way that makes it easy to ration and store in your survival and disaster kit. All natural ingredients with superior coconut flavor. The small and lightweight is USCG approved and has a 5 year shelf life. A high energy value and ready to eat.
👤I got the full life from my pack, which was packed in July of last year. I bought this to see if it worked out. The directions say to eat 1 bar every 6 hours at sea and 4 hours on land. It's 4 bars per day since you won't be awake for 24 hours. You could go 4 days on that metric. I only had 3 bars on my first day. It's possible to go for 5 days. I only ate 25% of my normal intake, so I felt weaker throughout the day. I have a very physically demanding job. It's a good test to me. The bars are wrapped. They look like someone crushed a bunch of dog biscuits and compressed them into a bar that was three times as thick. The individual wrappers are not sealed. They are hard to unwrap, and you will have to break the bar into pieces to open it. The bar is very brittle and can easily fall. It's basically the same flavor as a slightly old graham cracker. You could put it on a cheese cake. If you drink a little water with it, you can have it in your mouth for a while.
👤The portable calories are waterproof. Perfect emergency food. There were no strong reactions among the people I've had try them. These are supposed to be coconut flavor, but I didn't like it at all, they taste like a graham cracker. It's a good thing that these are easy to eat for people with poor or no teeth as the texture is very crumbly. Emergency ration should be easy to eat and neutral. If you need to bust into these, there's no reason you should have to eat terrible food because the situation is already bad. They're not good enough for anyone to get into them without a need. Not good for frivolous snacking. When you last heard someone say "I'm craving some emergency ration!" Nope, me not. It helps if you aren't really good at making sure they're there when you need them. The outer package is easy to open, but the inner plastic shrink wrap on the individual bars was difficult to open. It is doable, but a knife or sharp object will make it easier. They made good s'mores. The leftovers from the tester packages were not as good as normal crackers, but we had to find something to do with them.
👤I haven't tried them yet because I purchased them for shelf storage. I only bought one pack because I wanted to try them, but my husband said no. My review is based on the packaging. I bought them on 4-13-2017. The manufacturing date is 9-15, and only just now been noticed. These are 1.5 years old. I know they have 3 years left on them, but when I asked the seller about the shelf life, he said they have a 5 year shelf life. All of our stock is new. I'm not happy that I'm losing shelf life, but I only paid $9 for them. I'm not going to complain to the company and have no plans to return them, but just be aware that when you receive them, they may not have 5 years of shelf storage left. The package was vacuum sealed and arrived quickly. The instructions are printed on them at sea and land. I don't have to worry about remembering. There are drinking water tips in emergency situations. I'll update my review if I can convince the husband to open them. If it had full shelf life, I would have given it 4 stars.
The StarKist 48-Pack of canned tuna is a bulk purchase. When hunger strikes, these tuna in water cans are great to have handy for when you are on the go, at the office or at home. The package weight is 1.6 lbs. Product type is safety supply Us Coast Guard has been approved.
👤The product was 2 years into its shelf life. The 1I was manufactured in July of 2016 and will be gone in June of 2021. They are being sold as having a long shelf life. I only get 3 years out of this one.
👤Trans Fat should not be in a food product. I will not buy any more from the food lab. There are many other choices.
👤Trans fat is dangerous for your circulation system. The daily limit for adults is 2 grams, but even one bar contains a much higher amount. The picture of its "nutrition facts" on Amazon's page was not accurate.
👤Of the 13 that I have received, four have not been vacuum sealed. The advertised shelf life is questionable because of the holes in the packaging. I bought 10 of them and 3 were bad. I returned them. Thanks to Amazon, which is very easy. I received three more backs, one of which was not vacuum sealed. I wouldn't trust this product in a life or death situation because of the high failure rate.
👤I bought these on Amazon for under 10 bucks, so I could try them out. I would like to make sure that you all catch the thing that I found a little misleading. The package only contains 3,600 calories, which is not advertised as a three-day supply. If you consider that the average person eats 2,000 calories per day or more, you can get a more accurate depiction of how this would last for you. If you wanted it to last for three days, you would need 1,200 calories per day. Depending on your level of activity, it may last. Keep that in mind. The good, now! The taste was pretty decent, and grew on me while I ate the first bar, which was the equivalent of 400 calories. The packaging was great. These suckers were packaged in a very versatile "brick" that would make storage and transport a breeze. There are clearly marked expiration and multiplication dates. If you are curious, you can open the outer packaging and keep the seal on the bars inside. The bars are wrapped individually in the packaging so you can test a few and leave the rest in there for future use. The outer packaging is made to preserve shelf life. You're left with a standard wrapper after it's broken open. Hope that helps. I'll buy more of them now that I know the taste isn't bad. It goes great with coffee.
👤I received this in June after ordering it in February. The product was useless because the vacuum seal was non-existent. I have the same food ration that is 10 years old with a vacuum seal and I'm not happy about it. There was no way to get a replacement. I am more unhappy now that the price has increased. If you received a ration without a good vacuum seal, you should return it.
👤The seal broke when one of the two ordered arrived. To reach out to the seller about replacement, and not to open it in case they want to exchange it for something else. These things are strong. * The sealed package is as solid as brick. The package clearly shows the date of manufacture and the date of expiration, which is nice compared to some similar products. When sealed, it is 4.5 x 4.875 x 2. It's perfect for keeping an emergency bag. I'll update the review if the "open" one is replaced.
There are 36 bars in the value pack with 200 calories per bar. It is packaged in a way that makes it easy to ration and store in your survival and disaster kit. The coconut flavor is superior and all natural. The small and lightweight is USCG approved and has a 5 year shelf life. A high energy value and ready to eat.
👤I have put food bars in my emergency kit for a long time. They are a good product. The date is conservative as far as I can tell. I have eaten bars that I was planning on replacing and found that they tasted great. If you are eating emergency bars, the calories are more important than the vitamins. If you reach the expiration date, add a new package to your kit instead of throwing out the expired package. The bars can't be resealed. I keep a Zip-lock bag with the ration so that I can open the factory packaging and find them later. The food bars are wrapped in a thin plastic wrap that is not air tight, so they don't stick together. The material that the food bars are made out of has a compressed look to it, rather than being stuck together. The taste is similar to a bar with a nutty flavor. The bars are going to go bad if it gets punched from bouncing around in emergency kit, that's the weak point of the packaging. I use my FoodSaver to vacuum pack the factory package of bars. This protects against a hole being punched in the package.
👤Good price. It's not bad. Bland is more realistic when it comes to sugar content than another brand. They claim three days per bar. Depending on your activity level. Laying in a life raft, the instructions say to eat one every 6 hours, which would stretch them to 4 1/2 days, but they suggest one every 4 hours which makes the 3 days they claim. If you need to be active, you should plan for each pack to be good for 2 days. A bit heavy. You don't need extra water or a fire. Nothing to distract you. These are a major part of my disaster plan.
👤These are for embryology. These are easy to store and perfect for keeping in a bug out bag. Since you won't be using them except in an emergency, you won't care what it tastes like. I bought a pack of two and will be buying a further 3-6, they are not too expensive for what you get out of them, and if you get lost, you can't put a price on survival. I wouldn't recommend it as they are high in fat (9 grams per bar) and once the outer glazed aluminum foil wrap is broken your shelf life is no more. If you haven't bought these before they are quite small, they are compressed and made to be eaten slowly and chewed well. I will keep this up if there is a change, be smart and stay safe!
👤I have returned it three times because the vacuum seal failed on at least two of the four packages. I bought this product a long time ago for a disaster preparedness kit and am only replacing it now because it has expired. The old packages were sealed perfectly. Quality control is thought to have gone downhill.
A high energy value and ready to eat. Their survival supplies kit contains enough emergency food to last an adult 15 days, consuming 2,000 calories of emergency food per day, and a 20lb non-perishable food pack. Each pack of emergency supplies has undergone a stringent quality inspection. If they wouldn't consume these bulk food supplies ourselves, they wouldn't sell them. The perfect complement to your emergency preparedness items, this survival food with 25 year shelf life contains enough emergency ration to see you through any crisis situation. Their survival food kit is perfect for anyone who wants an MRE alternative, or who wants to avoid the risk of crowded grocery stores, because each box of survival essentials is a practical long term food. If you don't like their food survival kit, just let them know what the problem is and they'll do everything they can to make it right. Bear Essentials has excellent customer service and outstanding quality. If you don't like their food survival kit, just let them know what the problem is and they'll do everything they can to make it right. Bear Essentials has excellent customer service and outstanding quality.
👤Not an MRE alternative. 5 large bags of dry ingredients cost more than what I could buy at the store and still require a pot and water to make. It's only useful in the ideal survival scenario. It is worthless for survival and a waste of money.
👤The bag is sealed with rice, beans, macaroni and pancake mix. It would be cheaper to buy it at the store. You need a pot and water to cook food. It is not like a MRE that you just add water and cook. The packaging is thick and seals tight. Customer service is great.
👤I was expecting a premade meal. The money was wasted.
👤It comes out to about 16 cents per 100 calories. You can't beat that. Some of it is white rice. It's in a package for 25 years. You have to replace it every couple years. I'm going to buy more. You could eat 1000 calories a day with the other 2 week supplies, but only if you had one box. Think about it. A family of 4 can have a month's supply of food for $200.
👤I bought these because I wanted to save them for a rainy day or flash flood, but I haven't opened them yet. I like the packaging, it makes it look nice to get a box of food, but I wish there was a different type of box for storage since I live in the Pacific Northwest and everything gets damp. I could put the food in a tote. The food is in a nice package. I thought it was cute that it told you when it was born. We can make it last for a while if we give a lot of serving for practical reasons. I was happy to get the emergency food and put it in a cute box. Maybe take it camping this summer.
👤It is a great price for a basic meal prep. It comes in a box that is crushed by your door. The company needs a better package after the contents were not damaged. I would buy one a month if it came better packaged. It is difficult to stack the product when the box is bulging. I'm going to buy some buckets to put it in. It seems to be good.
👤I don't buy military ration if there's no fuel or fire. This is a lot of food for a small amount of money. Having long lasting grains like this gives me some peace of mind.
👤I found that I should start just in case. The case was worth the price for a first timer. It doesn't take up much space in our limited storage and the packaging is secure, so there are no worries about anything going bad. The ingredients are straight forward and easy to make. I recommend!
The weight of the box is 1.8 lbs. The bottle dimensions are 7.5 x W 5 x D. Emergency food ration is in waterproof packs and in a convenient pocket size. The biscuits are compressed high energy. Relief operations during natural or man-made disasters, emergency preparedness, outdoor activities, and as a food supplement are some of the uses of the NRG-5 ration. The air sealed packaging has a shelf life of 20 years. A 500g pack contains 9 individual bars with an energy value of 260 kcal each, which are vacuum-welded together in an aluminum foil. A 500g pack offers more than an average daily emergency of 1800-2000 kcal.
👤I bought two of them, one to try and the other to store for emergencies. Emergency ration bars are not meant for fun or very enjoyable situations. They're meant to provide energy and calories to keep you alive in a disaster. They're manageable if you're not picky. They're cheaper than most others, and better packed, and will take up less space. If you're careful, you can break off small pieces to eat without getting crumbs everywhere. They are wrapped individually in a vacuum sealed pack. If the sealed thing remains open, they will last up to 25 years. Have some water with you. If you don't have anything to drink, they'll be hard to eat. It's very unlikely for them to rot or mold because they have no water in them, which is a good thing. An economical emergency-pack choice. The box says it's made in Germany. I had some over a couple days. I had them as morning snacks to get me up and going, and maybe give me more energy to make more food. At first, they're not bad. If you chew slowly and don't rush yourself to choke it down, you will produce enough saliva to make it decent. Going slower is better for your digestion. So. I started to like it and was a little disappointed that I didn't have more to snack on. I had no issues after that. I think they're a good choice. They have a lot of sugar overall. What do you think the purpose of these is? These aren't fancy healthy meals you make from stuff you bought at WholeFoods. They're ration bars. It's meant to keep you alive long enough to get home in an emergency. Jeez, yeah. You're not supposed to eat them all the time. Some people don't know what survival ration is.
👤The survival ration is 25 years shelf stable and temperature stable. It's perfect to put in your boat, cabin or wherever you need it. If you want something that's not boring while you enjoy yourself at the gym or do selfies on a trail, go somewhere else. It tastes like a bag of mini wheats. It's designed to keep you alive if things get bad. Period. You need to make sure you have water in hand before you eat it, it will seriously dry your mouth out. There is no way to reseal it after opening it, so keep it in a bag. This is a survival ration. It is necessary to have shelf stability and ease of use in an emergency. It's not something that it is, stop trying to make it that way.
👤It is a good idea to trade calories for shelf live over life raft ration. I usually get 3600 calories life raft ration for $8 but they only have a 5 year shelf life. The flavor is ok but you will need water to drink. It is the equivalent of eating sweetened chalk. We don't buy these for a Saturday afternoon snack, but we do buy them for emergencies and for the calories, shelf live, and price they are well worth the investment.
1.3oz Bars, 12 ct. A pack of emergency food has a shelf life of 5 years. The US Coast Guard has standards. The requirement of SOLAS 74/83 is met. Both are Kosher and Halal. It is high in vitamins and minerals. There is noCholesterol or Tropical Oils. No peanut butter or peanut oil. There is no thievery provoking. The temperature can be as low as -40 F to 300F.
👤The first picture is what you should receive, and I have stored this in my backpack from a purchase I made in 2012 The "six pack" crease in the vacuum sealed bag indicates the ration is vacuum sealed. The ration should be sealed in a vacuum so that it will last for 5 years. I received a picture of the package on the table from the seller. This is the second faulty ration I have received from this seller. The tell tale sign that the package has lost its vacuum seal is the lack of "six pack" creases in the package. The bricks breaking away from each other is a sign that the seal has been broken and the brick has lost its integrity. I gave them a star because they sent me a replacement for the first package that was faulty. They only get one star because the second package was bad. If you get a package with a broken vacuum vacuum seal, it is not good, and it has already begun to spoil. Return to the seller.
👤All packages were vacuum packed and sealed. I opened one and tried. It was good and filling. Waited an hour and did not cause thirst.
👤I'm an old boy scout. "Be prepared" is my motto. When we least expect it, emergencies arise. It's better to have something and not need it. You can't always take a pantry of canned food with you everywhere you go, and the case of MRE's in your truck may be a long way down the trail. You can put this in a daypack and have a 3-day emergency food ration for less space than 6 MRE's. I carry this with me in a Camelbak M.U.L.E., with some water purification crystals, an Aquamira emergency filter straw, a lockback knife, compass, Mag-lite, Swedish Firesteel, and a AMK heatsheets bivvy. There's still room for more than one rain jacket. If you know what you're doing, that's food, water and shelter for 3-7 days. This product will keep you alive and moving if you need it. If you're a fan of The Lord of the Rings, you should pretend it's Lembas. People can pretend it's not manna. You'll think it's heavenly when you use it.
👤I've carried these in my backpack through blazing days and freezing nights, left one in the back of my truck for 4 years, and conducted various other abuses on this stuff, but the taste is good, no rancidity or unpleasant flavors. This is the kind of thing you should carry in your car, backpack, and go-back for that "just in case" moment. 3,600 calories is enough to get you through three days of waiting for someone to come and find you, or a solid day of tabbing across broken countryside to get yourself back to civilization. It tastes better than MREs.
👤The package labeling on the product I received was tampered with. The items have a shelf life of 5 years. The area where the manufacturing date is supposed to be listed had been marked out with a black marker and covered with a permanent-stick barcode instead. There is no way to know when these were produced. These packages are out of date and being sold for a new price. Product and merchant have a 1 star rating. I contacted Amazon and was assured that this is not how they conduct business and that a refund would be issued immediately. I have no doubts about it. I was not required to return the item because of its weight. I was told by Amazon to do whatever I wanted with it. I kept it for a couple of weeks but forgot it for the time being. The vacuum seal failed when I returned to examine the item. The item appeared to be full of air and not secure. It was somewhat surprising that the mylar covering on this isn't strong. I opened the package to look at it. Being mostly flour, sugar and shortening it was still good. The package contained nine 2x2 cubes which tasted like very dense cornbread. It's pleasant as others report. I wouldn't want to try to survive for three days or more. It would get old very quickly. It's supposedly an "emergency" ration. I can assure you that after living on this for three days, you won't be in good shape. The metabolism problems would be caused by the large amounts of sugar and fat. The majority of the sugar would turn into fat. The shortening is non-digestible and has very little "food" value. Whole wheat does not have the nutrition value of enriched flour. It would be like living for 3 days on high-fat sugar cookies. I bought a package of trail mix that had a "use-by" date of 2 years, but it was mostly nuts, roasted soy beans and dehydrated fruit. I found I could do well on a small amount of trail mix, which is why it's called trail mix in the first place. One could eat a small amount of trail mix every hour or two and be satisfied with their nutrition even for three days or more. One would have a light-weight emergency ration with some beef or turkey jerky. I found the other options much better than the emergency ration. The packets have a "5 year shelf life" on them. These aren't "C rations", they are basically mass-marketed and questionably-presented junk food. "let the buyer beware" is a phrase used in this case. I recommend that you read the nutrition labels and then buy some trail mix and jerky to see how it does in a test situation. I think the alternatives are more appetizing and satisfying. The product failed to impress... It was lost on all counts. I wouldn't want to rely on this stuff for sustenance unless I was starving and there were no rats to hunt. I don't usually give products one star. Product quality and merchant deceptive practice are both DEFINITELY one star. And no... I'm not a bad person, as my other reviews will show. There are legitimate findings and review. This is a bad product.
