Here is another old pregnancy vlog! I was 19 weeks pregnant in this video (I am now 25 weeks pregnant!). This was filmed on June 24th, and I was talking about the most obvious symptom I experienced that week: melasma or skin discoloration.
Melasma is more commonly found in darker-skinned women during pregnancy, and it happens because of rapid changes in hormones. Darker-skinned women will mostly get the line down their belly button as well called linea nigra. This is nothing to be alarmed about. My skin doesn’t itch or tingle or hurt. It will all go away hopefully after pregnancy—or so they say!
It got so obvious in later weeks and embarrassing that I couldn’t wear sleeveless shirts in the summer comfortably. However, I did find a solution to get rid of the patches of dark skin out of my desperation! Dry skin brushing didn’t work, but rubbing coconut oil on it vigorously did! After I rubbed it with coconut oil, I used a rough napkin to wipe off what looked like grime but wasn’t. Here is the before and after photo:
It was seriously like magic. A couple of scrubs, and Presto—all gone!
